Lewis Black's ONE SLIGHT HITCH Coming to The Human Race Theatre, 4/8

Spring has sprung and while love is in the air at The Human Race, April showers loom for the characters of the theatre company's latest production, One Slight Hitch. Life in suburban Cincinnati is good for Doc and Delia Coleman on the morning they're about to throw their eldest daughter the perfect wedding they never had, that is until her vagabond exboyfriend arrives on their doorstep and turns their best laid plans into total chaos. The result is a zany, door-slamming comedy about stressed-out parents, less-than-helpful siblings and interruptions galore from the mind of comedian Lewis Black. Will their daughter make it down the aisle or will the day end up a perfect disaster? The production at The Human Race's downtown Dayton home at The Loft Theatre is directed by Margarett Perry and features actors Brian Dykstra and Rita Rehn, with Dana Berger, Alex Curtis, Cecily Dowd, Kyle Nunn and Alex Sunderhaus. The preview performance of One Slight Hitch is Thursday, April 7. Opening night is Friday, April 8. The production runs through April 24.

by BWW News Desk - Jan 22, 2015

Dayton's premier professional regional theatre continues its legacy of developing new works and its long-standing relationship with New York writer Michael Slade as it prepares for the first ever production of Slade's latest play, Family Shots, at downtown's The Loft Theatre. Charming family patriarch Sam Baker lies in a hospital bed, recovering from an apparent heart attack, but his wife, Marsha, won't stop making the crisis all about her -- much to the dismay of their son, Aaron. The young photographer wonders why his parents even stay together while he and his husband, Malcolm, deal with their own issues as newlyweds. Intimate, yet universal, Family Shots is a wildly funny and touching comedy about marriage -- its joys, challenges and responsibilities -- and what's worth fighting for. The production runs tonight, January 22 - February 8, 2015.

Michael Slade's AND A CHILD SHALL LEAD Opens Tonight in NYC
by BWW News Desk - Dec 18, 2014

Out of the eerily emptied Terezin Ghetto established by the Nazis near Prague as a 'Jewish City' - which was in reality a way station to the death camps - a remarkable discovery was made at the close of World War II. The children of Terezin, in the face of unspeakable horror and at constant risk of execution, built a thriving world of creativity and beauty.Words on a page can have deep meaning, but actually meeting people about whom those words were written can create memories that last a lifetime. Terezin's prisoners included more than 15,000 children. Fewer than 100 survived. The cast met one of them, along with another survivor at SelfHelp Community Services , and toured the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York.
