Thomas Hampson Coming to Carnegie Hall with Pianist Wolfram Rieger

On Monday, February 9 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, Carnegie Hall presents celebrated baritone Thomas Hampson in recital with pianist Wolfram Rieger in a program that features the world premiere of Civil Words by Jennifer Higdon, commissioned by Carnegie Hall. The program also includes works by Strauss, Hindemith, Vaughan Williams, Ives, and more. Please see below for full program details. Mr. Hampson, considered one of the most important interpreters of German Romantic song, has become known as the "Ambassador of American song" after his collaborative project with the Library of Congress called Song of America. Comprising more than 150 albums, Mr. Hampson's discography includes winners of a Grammy Award, five Edison Awards, and the Grand Prix du Disque. He was most recently featured on the album Christmas at Downton Abbey, released by Warner Bros. in November.

Sir Roger Norrington to Conduct OSL in Beethoven's MISSA SOLEMNIS at Carnegie Hall, 3/6

Declared 'one of the great innovators of our musical life' (The Telegraph), Sir Roger Norrington, a revolutionary conductor and leading figure in historically informed performance, will conduct Orchestra of St. Luke's in its final Carnegie Hall Orchestra Series concert of the season, featuring Beethoven's Missa Solemnis. This marks a rare U.S. appearance for the British conductor, who turns 80 years old just days after the concert. OSL is one of the few American orchestras Norrington continues to conduct on a regular basis.

Pablo Heras-Casado to Conduct Orchestra of St. Luke's at Carnegie Hall, 10/23

On Wednesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m.,Orchestra of St. Luke's returns to Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage for the first of three concerts this season. Following a successful debut last season as the orchestra's principal conductor, Pablo Heras-Casadoconducts Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings as well as Mendelssohn's overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9 in E-flat Major.

Canadian Opera Co. Wraps 2012-13 Season with 90% Attendance

The Canadian Opera Company has closed another successful opera season by recording an average attendance of 90% for 2012/2013. A total of 114,133 patrons attended the 61 performances of the company's seven mainstage productions this season in the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts: Verdi's Il Trovatore, Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus, Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Richard Strauss's Salome and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites.

COC Presents Mozart's Final Opera La clemenza di Tito in February

The Canadian Opera Company presents a production described as "modern music theatre you mustn't miss" (Chicago Tribune) this winter season when it performs Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's last opera, La clemenza di Tito, directed by Christopher Alden. Conducting some of opera's most sublime music is the dynamic young maestro Daniel Cohen in his company debut, leading an acclaimed ensemble cast that features internationally renowned Canadian tenor Michael Schade and Metropolitan Opera regular American mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard. La clemenza di Tito is sung in Italian with English SURTITLES™ and was last performed by the COC in 1991. It runs for nine performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on February 3, 6*, 7, 9, 11, 13, 16, 19 and 22, 2013.

Canadian Opera Company Will Not Include Radio Broadcasts in Upcoming Season

The Canadian Opera Company has announced that, after four months of negotiations, the company's offer to the membership of Canadian Actors' Equity Association and the Toronto Musicians Association has been rejected. An agreement would have allowed the COC to continue to produce, in partnership with the CBC, broadcasts of the COC's entire 2012/2013 season on CBC Radio 2 and Radio-Canada's Espace Musique. These broadcasts have been in place since the fall of 2009.

Canadian Opera Company to Present DIE FLEDERMAUS, 10/4-11/3

Johann Strauss II's popular operetta, Die Fledermaus, returns to the Canadian Opera Company after an absence of more than 20 years with a new production this fall. Strauss II outdid his own reputation as the "waltz king" of Vienna with Die Fledermaus by composing some of opera's most enduring dance music for this hilarious comedy with its screwball plot of elaborate revenge, disguises and mistaken identity. A largely Canadian cast, led by internationally renowned tenor Michael Schade in a role debut, comes together in this new COC production by innovative director Christopher Alden with COC Music Director Johannes Debus conducting. Die Fledermaus is sung in German with English SURTITLES™ and runs for 11 performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on Oct. 4, 9, 12, 14, 17, 20, 24, 27, 30, Nov. 1 and 3, 2012.

Canadian Opera Company Closes Season at 91% Attendance

The Canadian Opera Company has closed another successful opera season with 2011/2012 recording an average attendance of 91%. A total of 125,238 patrons attended the 67 performances of the company's seven mainstage productions in the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts: Gluck's Iphigenia in Tauris, Verdi's Rigoletto, Puccini's Tosca, Saariaho's Love from Afar, Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, the double bill of Zemlinsky's A Florentine Tragedy and Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and Handel's Semele.
