City Theatre Announces Casting and Directors for SUMMER SHORTS 2013

John Manzelli, producing Artistic Director of City Theatre, announced that casting and director slots are complete for Summer Shorts 2013, the eighteenth edition of fast and often hilarious short plays that South Florida theatre audiences have come to expect as the perfect kick-off to summer theatre. The Annual Summer Shorts Festival includes an all-new Summer Shorts production, a new family musical and CityWrights: Professional Weekend for Playwrights including the announcement of the winners of the 2nd Annual City Theatre National Award For Short Playwriting.

2013 Carbonell Nominations Announced

The 2013 Carbonell Nominations have been announced. The Carbonell Awards is a not-for-profit organization and is funded by tax-deductible donations and award sponsorships. Opportunities to sponsor an award category and appear on stage to announce the winner are still available.

Jan McArt to Star in BACK STAGE STORY at Lynn University, Today

BACK STAGE STORY, a new comedy by Tony Finstrom, starring Jan McArt, will be presented as a Staged Reading for one night only, at 7:30 PM tonight, January 14th, 2013, in Lynn University's Wold Performing Arts Center, Boca Raton, Fla. (on the same stage where the final Presidential debate took place last fall between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.)

Gotham Arts Exchange Presents 2nd Annual FOCUS DANCE, Now thru 1/13

FOCUS DANCE is a part of FOCUS 2013, the National Platform to promote American dance both abroad and nationally. The week-long platform presents performances of U.S.-based dance companies during the annual Arts Presenters Conference in New York City, and one of the largest gatherings of artists, dancers and dance professionals in the U.S. From tonight, January 8-14, 2013, four venues partner with Gotham Arts Exchange to present the artistic visions of five curators gathered to shape this year's edition.

Rosie Herrera Comes to The O'Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University Tonight

As part of Women of Substance at St. Catherine University, Rosie Herrera will perform tonight, November 29, 2012 at 7:30 pm. The performance will take place at The O'Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University, and is co-presented with Northrop Dance at the University of Minnesota.

Lynn University Hosts Jan McArt's Theatre Arts Guild Florida's NEW PLAY WORKSHOP, Beginning in January

This play reading series at Lynn is being expanded into a much more ambitious program, where actual workshops will be produced that give playwrights the chance to bring in a new play and work with a cast and a director for six days - rehearsing, re-writing, rehearsing, rewriting. Then, at the end of the six days, they will present their new, polished, reworked play to the public, in performance.

Parade Productions Presents Michael McKeever in THE SANTALAND DIARIES, 12/13-12/23

The Santaland Diaries will open Parade Productions' second season on December 13th, and run through December 23rd at the Studio Theatre at Mizner Park in Boca Raton. The Santaland Diaries hilariously relates David Sedaris' experiences when he reluctantly worked as an elf in Macy's Christmastime Santaland display, and offers an uproarious behind-the-scenes look at how department stores manufacture Christmas spirit.

On Thursday, June 28th, there will be an invitation-only reading of Michael McKeever's new play Stuff featuring Sheldon Best (Freed), Penny Fuller (Dividing the Estate), David Greenspan (A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Patsy) and Stephen Spinella (An Iliad, As You Like It). It will be directed by Shelley Butler.

Stuart Meltzer's BETTER THAN DAMN GOOD Premiere Reading At Mizner Park

Parade Productions, Boca Raton's newest theatre company, will follow up their wildly successful debut production of Donald Margulies Brooklyn Boy with a premiere reading of South Florida playwright Stuart Meltzer's comedy, Better Than Damn Good. The reading will take place on April 23rd, at 7:30 p.m., at the Studio at Mizner Park in Boca Raton.

Arsht Center Presents Tenth Anniversary Production Of NE 2ND AVENUE

Directed by Michael Garces, NE 2ND AVENUE depicts the lives of eight distinct characters: a Puerto Rican small-time drug dealer, a deprived African-American young lady, a Haitian jitney driver, a Cuban-Jewish grandfather, a Rasta Man, an African-American adolescent trying to find his footing in life, a Cuban rafter and a gay man, who each take the audience on a memorable journey through the intense streets of Miami. Through its characters, NE 2ND AVENUE brings voice to Miami's marginalized urban populations, exploring underlying issues of racism and social injustice, acknowledging the differences among us and ultimately discovering the common threads that bind us together.
