Joanie Schultz to Direct Adam Bock's A SMALL FIRE at Steep Theatre, Opening 7/10

Steep Artistic Associate Joanie Schultz, fresh off directing the Goodman Theater's production of David Ives' Venus in Fur, returns home to Steep to direct the company's upcoming Chicago Premiere of Adam Bock's A Small Fire. Ms. Schultz and Steep scored a hit with Bock's work in 2012 with their critically acclaimed, Jeff nominated production of The Receptionist. A Small Fire opens on Thursday, July 10th at Steep Theatre.

Route 66 Theatre Presents Chicago Premiere of CICADA, Now thru 5/25

Route 66 Theatre Company is pleased to present the Chicago premiere of Cicada, by Jerre Dye, directed by Route 66 Theatre Company's Associate Artistic Director, Erica Weiss. This coming of age ghost story deeply rooted in the life of a small southern family on the verge of transformation plays today, April 9 - May 25, 2014 at Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N Lincoln Avenue in Chicago.

Steve Scott to Direct VANYA AND SONIA in 2015; Larry Yando to Play 'Scrooge' in A CHRISTMAS CAROL at the Goodman

Today, Artistic Director Robert Falls announces that his longtime associate, Producer Steve Scott, will direct Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Christopher Durang's Tony Award-winning, 'deliriously funny, hilariously demented' Broadway hit, in Spring 2015 (dates TBA). A loving send-up of Chekhov's greatest works, Vanya makes its Chicago premiere in the Albert Theatre as part of the Subscription series in the theater's 90th Anniversary 'Season to Celebrate.' (One play is TBA.)

LETTERS/X to Open New Production at the Apollo Studio, 2/6

Chicago's original anti-Valentine's Day cabaret, Letters/X, opens an all-new production at the Apollo Studio in Lincoln Park on February 6. Now in its eleventh year, Letters/X is based entirely on actual letters, emails, text messages, Facebook posts, and other ephemera submitted by the public. Chicago playwright and musician Anthony Roberts adapts the submissions into a script and writes original songs based on the material. The 2014 score includes seven brand new songs.

Rebecca Gilman's LUNA GALE to Begin Performances 1/18 at Goodman Theatre

Pulitzer Prize finalist Rebecca Gilman asks this question and more in her latest play, Luna Gale, directed by Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Robert Falls in their fourth collaboration. Gilman's seven Goodman productions-six of which were world premieres, including five commissions-make her one of the most-produced contemporary playwrights in the theater's history. Appearing in her 16th Goodman production, Chicago stage favorite Mary Beth Fisher-who also originated roles in Gilman's Spinning Into Butter and Boy Gets Girl-stars as veteran social worker Caroline, who is charged with making tough decisions about the future of Luna Gale, a vulnerable child. The recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New American Plays Award, Luna Gale is part of the Goodman's 'Great Women at Play' subscription package, featuring works written and/or directed by Rachel Rockwell (Brigadoon), Joanie Schultz (Venus in Fur), Jessica Thebus, Tracey Scott Wilson (Buzzer) and Mary Zimmerman (The White Snake). Luna Gale runs January 18 - February 23 in the Albert Theatre (opening night is Monday, January 27). New Chicago Artists Join the Goodman's Artistic Team for 2013-14 Playwrights Unit

A new crop of local talent joins Goodman Theatre's artistic team for the 2013/2014 Season. The four Chicago-based writers named to the fourth season of the Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency program designed to support and develop new works-include Andrew Hinderaker, Gift Theatre ensemble member; Mickle Maher, cofounder of Theater Oobleck; Anne Garcia-Romero, a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists; and Laura Schellhardt, who oversees undergraduate playwriting at Northwestern University. A partnership with Chicago Dramatists, the Playwrights Unit meets twice per month with members of the Goodman's artistic team to discuss their plays-in-progress and provide feedback for one another. The program includes readings of the playwrights' works-in-progress at Chicago Dramatists in early 2014, and culminates in summer 2014 with staged readings of their completed works at the Goodman. Playwrights Unit alumni include Greg Allen, Alice Austen, Ike Holter and Christopher Oscar Peña (2012/2013 Season); Philip Dawkins, Nambi E. Kelley, Elaine Romero and Martin Zimmerman (2011/2012 Season); and Seth Bockley, Lisa Dillman, Laura Jacqmin and Rohina Malik (2010/2011 Season).

Directing the holiday favorite for the first time, Henry Wishcamper's production features all-new on stage magic-set elements, special effects and more. The cast of 27 (below, includes 14 new and 13 returning cast members) stars Larry Yando, who most recently appeared in Mary Zimmerman's production of The Jungle Book as Shere Khan, in his sixth turn as Ebenezer Scrooge and 8-year-old Matthew Abraham as Tiny Tim for the second year.
