LABA presents two Second Stage events at The Theater at the 14th Street Y, 344 E. 14th Street, New York, NY 10003, in February 2018. 'The first year of the LABA fellowship is really about the first encounter -- the first try, the impulse, a first creative sketch and creating a touch point for the artist,' said Ronit Muszkatblit, Artistic Director of LABA. 'In the Second Stage program, we go into the next layer -- it's about finding depth.
The Central Academy of Drama (CAD) attended a Broadway to China Symposium in New York City and Chicago. The goal of the trip was to promote organizational innovation through multilateral exchanges and cooperation with the world's leading drama educational and professional theater institutions. The Central Academy of Drama is known as one of the best drama and stage arts institutions in China, training students for placement in arts organizations across the globe. It is their belief that to train students for international placement, the faculty must be knowledgeable of state of the art practices across the map.

What could be more pleasant and liberating than being intoxicated, and what could at times be more horrid? Are we, by drinking, allowing our 'other side' to manifest itself in the open? What happens when we find this 'other side' too scary - or perhaps more dangerously, too attractive?
New York theatre stuck it to the patriarchy this year with healthy-for-the-soul offerings like A 24 Decade History of Popular Music, O, Earth, The Wolves, and more!

LABA: A Laboratory for Jewish Culture announces the 2016/2017 LABA Fellows, consisting of a group of twelve culture-makers-a mix of visual artists, writers, dancers, musicians, actors and others, who are brought together to study classic Jewish texts in a non-religious, open-minded setting centered on a chosen theme.
The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) are thrilled to announce the winners of the 61st Annual Obie Awards. Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj, produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, received the Obie Award® for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney each received a special Obie Award® for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). A complete list of the awards is given below.
The Bushwick Starr is proud to present Obie Award-winning playwright Clare Barron's newest work, the world premiere of I'LL NEVER LOVE AGAIN (a chamber piece), part concert and part archaeological dig about first love, first heartbreak, and how those formative teenage experiences haunt the rest of our lives. I'LL NEVER LOVE AGAIN is created from Barron's actual teenage diary and performed by a chorus of downtown's finest. We track the emotional ups-and-downs of 'Clare' as she goes through her very first relationship. It's a chance to spend some time in a real-life teenage brain and with real-life teenage artifacts (drawings from Clare's journals, the actual purple iridescent choir robes from her high school, her baby teeth...) but the goal is to jog the audience's memories and inspire their own personal reflection. Do you remember your first cup of coffee? Or how intense it was the first time you took your pants off with someone? Or all the things you promised yourself before you got distracted by the Adult World?
Established in 2013 by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music and SDC Foundation, the Kurt Weill Fellowship helps nurture early-career directors and choreographers by acquainting them with the stage work of Kurt Weill or Marc Blitzstein under the guidance of a master director or choreographer. The Fellowship provides the opportunity to assist or observe a master director or choreographer at work on a production, selected by the Kurt Weill Foundation, of a theatrical work composed by Weill or Blitzstein, including musical theater, opera, operetta, and dance works.
