BWW Review: MACBETH, Barbican

Embracing the darkness of the play and space, we are 'cabined, cribbed, confined, bound in to saucy doubts and fears' alongside Macbeth in Polly Findlay's terrifying and thoughtful production.

BWW Review: OLIVER TWIST, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

There is much about Charles Dickens' Classic tale Oliver Twist to recommend it to children; the comic pomposity of Mr Bumble, the sinister actions of Fagin, the cheekiness of the Artful Dodger and, of course, the adventures and eventual salvation of poor orphan Oliver.

Original Cast of THE PITMEN PAINTERS Head Back to West End

Casting has been announced for the forthcoming West End production of Lee Hall's The Pitmen Painters, presented by Bill Kenwright. The climax of an extraordinary journey, which started at Newcastle's Live Theatre and continued on to the National, Broadway, and all round the UK, The Pitmen Painters is highly amusing, deeply moving and always entertaining as it examines the lives of a group of ordinary men who do extraordinary things.

Review - The Pitmen Painters: Don't Quit Your Day Job

As Lee Hall's The Pitmen Painters, inspired by the true story of a collection of miners who art history books now refer to as The Ashington Group, commences, the title characters are quite figuratively blank canvases.  Raised to spend nine hours a day working the northern English coal mines from the time they're still boys, the small gathering of fellows who decided they wanted to learn a bit about culture through weekly visits from a university art professor have never set foot in a gallery and know nothing of the great works most of their countrymen would recognize as part of common knowledge.  Their understanding is that there is some 'secret' behind art that only the elite know about, giving them the ability to determine what's good and what isn't.
