Modern, bloody, edgy, and not for the faint of heart. A musical take on Stephen King's horror classic Carrie with an all-star, stellar cast.

From June 1 to 25, 2017, SNAP! Productions will present the Omaha Premiere of one of the most talked-about shows in theatre history: CARRIE the musical.

???????Majestic Repertory Theatre concludes its inaugural season with the Las Vegas premiere of CARRIE THE MUSICAL, based on the classic novel by Stephen King. 

Beck Center Teen Theater continues their 2016-2017 season with CARRIE the musical, March 24-26 and March 31-April 2, 2017 in the Mackey Theater. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays. A student matinee will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 30. Iconotheatrix presents CARRIE: THE MUSICAL from October 20 to 23 at The MATCH. In this revamped, contemporary version of the famous (and infamous) 1988 production, we follow Carrie White (Courtlin Parisher), a young woman with telekinetic powers. An outcast at school, where she is bullied viciously for her differences, Carrie is also lost at home, with a fervently religious mother, Margaret White (guest artist, Rachel Landon). Pushed to the brink, Carrie's powers threaten to overwhelm her, and devour everyone around her in flame.

Directed by Robert Devarona, Carrie the Musical will rise at the Hamilton Stage in Rahway, New Jersey starting this Friday.

When PE teacher, Miss Gardner (guest artist Morgan Kaupert), kind classmate Sue Snell (Jackie Cortina), and boyfriend Tommy Ross (Brendan Morrow) reach out to try and help Carrie, it seems that for once, Carrie might have a shot at being accepted. But Chris Hargensen (Cassidy D'Agostino), the class's most vicious bully, and Billy Nolan (Alex Kerry), her not-so-bright boyfriend, have other ideas. Pushed to the brink, Carrie's powers threaten to overwhelm her, and devour everyone around her in flame.

The first annual HARVARD-YALE CANTATA at Feinstein's/54 Below, a musical competition modeled on the legendary boat race, was nothing short of electrifying. The sold-out show directed and produced by Tom Toce (Yale '78) was one of those evenings that make you grateful and happy to live in New York among so many brilliant and passionate artists. And if you happened to attend either school, it produced a particular pride in all that is wonderful about institutions fashionable to bash in an age of reverse snobbery. (Full disclosure: I graduated from Yale in 1995.) While the second CANTATA played to a slightly smaller crowd, the show featured songs by lyricists who have made lasting contributions to popular music in the 20th Century: Alan Lerner (H '40), Tom Lehrer (H '46 and MA '47), and John Forster (H '69). In more recent years, Cambridge and New Haven have produced Broadway composers such as Larry O'Keefe (H '91 HEATHERS, LEGALLY BLONDE) and Bobby Lopez (Y '97, BOOK OF MORMON, AVENUE Q, and songs from FROZEN), the youngest of only 12 people to win an Emmy, Tony, Grammy, and Oscar.

Today in 1988, Carrie opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 5 performances. Carrie: The Musical is a musical with a book by Lawrence D. Cohen, lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and music by Michael Gore. Adapted from Stephen King's novel Carrie, it focuses on an awkward teenage girl with telekinetic powers whose lonely life is dominated by an oppressive religious fanatic mother. When she is humiliated by her classmates at the high school prom, she wreaks havoc on everyone and everything in her path.

Carrie: The Musical -  a one-night benefit concert will be performed in support of the Actors' Fund of Canada at St. Michael's College School Centre for the Arts in Toronto at 8 p.m. on Monday November 16th. Tickets are only $20. The event is being produced by Yes Theatre, Lili Connor, Alessandro Costantini, and Thomas Alderson.

From what I've gathered, the original production of CARRIE THE MUSICAL would have been a dream project for Bialystock and Bloom, THE PRODUCERS: There's something eyebrow-raising about taking Stephen King's novel CARRIE and drenching it - not just in blood, but in music and lyrics. Evidently, Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford felt up to the task, and with a book by Lawrence D. Cohen, the musical version became a theatrical reality. However, it's a 'slippery slope' they tread: Do you play something like this 'straight' - or do you decide to go in the direction of 'camp'?

CARRIE THE MUSICAL returned to Los Angeles at the historic Los Angeles Theatre, the first theatrical musical at that venue. CARRIE THE MUSICAL began previews on October 1, 2015 and officially opened on October 8, 2015. Check out a first look at highlights of the show below!
