'Sondheim: The Birthday Concert' PBS Special Gets Nov. DVD Release

As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, The New York Philharmonic's SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert, which took place on March 15-16, 2010 at Avery Fisher Hall, will be broadcast on THIRTEEN'S Great Performances on PBS on Wednesday, November 24 (check local listings). WNET, Channel 13 in New York City, will air the concert at 9:30 p.m. that evening. The concert includes songs and orchestral pieces from Sondheim musical theater favorites such as Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, Into the Woods, and Sunday in the Park with George. Today, it has been announced that in addition to the PBS telecast, the concert will be released on DVD in November by Image Entertainment.

Zombie Town: A Documentary Play by Tim Bauer directed by Southern Rep Associate Artistic Director, Mark Routhier, marks the first Southern Rep@Le Chat Noir production. This mock-umentary play tells the story of a San Francisco theatre collective that travels to Harwood, Texas, the site of a disturbing and devastating zombie attack, to interview the surviving citizens. This is the true recounting of that terrible invasion compiled from those interviews.

Celebrating Stephen Sondheim's 80th Birthday this year, Barrington Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Producing Director Richard M. Parison, Jr., presents the musical thriller, SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Directed by Julianne Boyd, with musical direction by Darren Cohen, Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece begins previews on June 17; opens June 23 at 7:00pm; and runs through July 17.

Former Nashville residents announce the 'NYC Loves Nashville' Benefit Concert at Le Poisson Rouge on July 27th. The concert will feature a diverse group of artists coming together to raise funds and awareness for the relief efforts in Nashville, Tennessee after unrelenting rainstorms in early May caused severe flood damage all across Music City. Participants include Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris, Nashville's own Laura Cantrell, Stuedabakerbrown, Caleb Hawley, Jennings and Milton. These artists have also generously donated tracks - some unreleased - that can be downloaded for free for a limited time with the purchase of a ticket online. Samonsky to Replace Thorell in TITANIC Concert 6/21

Andrew Samonsky will replace Clarke Thorell in the role of third-class passenger Jim Farrell in the June 21 benefit concert of TITANIC, Grace Notes reported today. In this role, Samonsky will perform the new song 'Three Days' in its New York debut.
