The Litchfield hills are alive as TriArts Sharon Playhouse continues its 2012 season with the heartwarming family classic, The Sound of Music. Directed and choreographed by Gary John La Rosa, with music direction by Artistic Director Michael Berkeley, The Sound of Music opens August 9 and runs through August 26, 2012. TriArts Sharon Playhouse (Sharon, CT) today announced its 2012 Season. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas runs June 28 - July 15 and will be directed by John Simpkins, whose recent credits include three time Drama Desk nominated Bloodsong of Love (by Joe Iconis) and Jim Lantz's play The Bus, which ran last fall at 59E59 Theatres. MK Lawson returns as choreographer, after doing the same for TriArts' productions of Rent and The Wedding Singer. Music Direction is by Rob Rokicki (Hairspray at the Engeman).

The Yale School of Music opens its 2011-12 YALE IN NEW YORK concert series with a rousing evening of 20th-century vocal music from Britain, featuring two masterpieces: Benjamin Britten's beloved Serenade for tenor, horn, and strings (written for Peter Pears, Britten's partner, and the immortal horn player Dennis Brain, who requested Britten write the work) and a rare performance of William Walton's satirical mini-opera The Bear.

Admission is $5. and no advance reservation is necessary. The reading is part of their 2011 New Works Readings and Concerts Series, which has included Whiskey Songs (by Joe Iconis) and When We Met (Music/ Lyrics by Julianne Wick Davis, Book by Dan Collins). Artistic Director John Simpkins oversees the summer series.

Ian McEwan's novel 'Atonement' which was turned into an Oscar-winning film in 2007 is now being adapted to an Opera, the author announced at the Southbank Centre in London on Thursday.
