Weathervane Playhouse managing artistic director Kevin Connell had a sense of trepidation leading up to the July 27 opening night for AVENUE Q. Written by Robert Lopez, Jeff Marx and Jeff Whitty, AVENUE Q is classified as 'Sesame Street for adults' and is the only show on the Newark theatre's summer calendar to come with a warning label about strong language and adult content. It also may be the only Weathervane production to rhyme the lines 'We'll be fine, thank you! See ya' with 'Hope you don't get gonorrhea.'
Prince George's Little Theatre will produce 'The Nerd,' a classic farce by Larry Shue, at the Bowie Playhouse from August 11 - 26. All Friday performances and the Saturday performances August 12 and 19 are at 8 p.m. The Sunday performances on August 13 and 20 and the closing performance on Saturday, August 26 are 2 p.m. matinees. The play is directed by John Degnan and produced by Malia Murray.

Four years after losing their space on University and Raymond, which also hosted other theater companies and the Minnesota Fringe Festival, they've opened a brand new space just a few blocks away on Vandalia. They are continuing to make improvements to the space that includes a spacious lobby and an intimate thrust stage, conveniently located near the Green Line, just off highways 94 and 280, and right next door to Lake Monster Brewery, whose libations can be brought into the theater.
