BWW CD Reviews: Jarrod Spector's A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS: Live at 54 BELOW's Frills Don't Thrill

After almost a decade of playing Frankie Valli in JERSEY BOYS on Broadway, Jarrod Spector took to the stage at 54 BELOW and gifted New York audiences with a cabaret concert that charts the progression of the popular tenor voice in music from the early 1900s to the present day. Recorded in November 2013, this cabaret performance is now immortalized on Broadway Record's release of Spector's album A LITTLE HELO FROM MY FRIENDS - Live at 54 BELOW.

BWW Recaps: IDOL Hits High Notes at the Movies

After two weeks of appropriately vague themes allowed the neophyte contestants to explore their individual artistry, I became more than a little apprehensive when Ryan said the top-11 would be singing the “Songs of the Cinema.” The lame OCEAN'S ELEVEN cold open, completed by the cheesiest “This is AMERICAN IDOL” ever to come out of Seacrest's mouth, made me worry that this could be a cheesetastic disaster. However, I forgot that the majority of this year's remaining contestants have shown a surprising talent for avoiding the cliché, and made this the best week of IDOL all season!

BWW Recaps: IDOL's Top-12 Show Signs of Life

Well, after last week's mini-disaster of a top-13 week, there was not much that American Idol could have thrown out on stage tonight that wouldn't have been an improvement. The home-visit episode, where the final three contestants receive ticker tape parades in their respective hometowns, has been the most emotional in each of IDOL's first 12 seasons. So apparently, new producer Per Blankens decided to use some of that emotion in the early stages of this season. While both the vocals and performances were stark improvements over last week, I'm not sure that this episode is going to harken back to the Golden Days of AMERICAN IDOL's dominance.

BWW Reviews: Milwaukee's OCTOBER, BEFORE I WAS BORN Portrays Human Frailty

The human spirit can supposedly thrive on strength and courage, and perhaps this is mistakenly assumed possible during any tragedy. In a poignant tribute to human resiliency, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre presented the Midwest premiere of October, Before I Was Born, a new production funded by the company's Montgomery Davis Play Development Series iand written by Wisconsin playwright Lori Matthews in the Studio Theater at the Broadway Theatre Center .

Alhambra's PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES to Open 12/28

Drive a ways outta town in central North Carolina, and you'll come to a filling station, and across the blacktop is the Double Cupp Diner. You wouldn't know that this little stop on North Carolina Highway 57 is where all the action is, but once the boys get revved up with their guitars and fiddles, it might as well be the center of the music world. Featuring Ashley Roberson, fresh off of her critically acclaimed and popular performance in South Pacific, Pump Boys and Dinettes presented by WQIK will be backed by a live band and promises to be a fun show.
