2014 Visionary Speaker Darren Aronofsky to Appear at The New Museum, 9/30

The New Museum is pleased to announce that Academy Award-nominated director Darren Aronofsky will be featured as this year's Visionary speaker. Aronofsky (b. 1969, Brooklyn) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. Now in its sixth season, the annual Stuart Regen Visionaries Series honors leading international thinkers and creators in the fields of art, architecture, design, dance, film, literature, and technology, and marks a commitment by the New Museum to consider their effects on culture at large. Aronofsky will be in conversation with novelist and critic Lynne Tillman on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. in the New Museum Theater.

Contactmusic.com writes that Jon Hamm, best known for his role as 'Don Draper' in MAD MEN, rejected an offer to play 'Hal Jordan' a.k.a. 'The Green Lantern' in 2011's superhero film. That honor eventually went to Ryan Reynolds.

Actor's Theatre's The Cottage is light and enjoyable fare for a hot summer's night. It's silly and predictable stuff, based on a premise that could have as easily come from the mind of Noel Coward but that to be truly great and live up to its hype would have required his writing prowess.

No doubt about it. The Book Club Play, written by Karen Zacarias and masterfully directed by Matthew Weiner, is an audience's delight and a tribute to the latter's commitment to socially relevant and provocative theatre. The ensemble is as good as it gets ~ a dream cast of dynamic and energetic actors who give fine definition to their roles. However, if there is a fault, it lies not in the stars but in the playwright whose message about culture and relationships gets diluted in this comedy of manners and cross-cutting themes.

According to Deadline, the first part of the season seven premiere 'drew 2.3 million viewers at 10 PM last night. Just ahead of the 2.06 million who watched the Season 2 debut on July 27, 2008, the widely promoted 1-hour debut was down 32% in total viewers from the 3.4 million viewers that watched the Matthew Weiner-created series' Season 6 premiere on April 7, 2013.'
