When the infamous Westboro Baptist Church showed up to protest the funerals of the victims of this month's shooting at the gay bar Pulse in Orlando, the local theatre community rallied. Partnering with Angel Action Wings, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre and other volunteers wore linen wings to block Westboro's homophobic picketers from view while singing 'Amazing Grace.' Malcontent Theatre Company is producing The Laramie Project, funded entirely by donations, with all proceeds supporting the victims of the Orlando shootings. The show will be held on June 24th at 8:00 pm in the studio theatre at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. There will be a reception with the cast at 7:00 in the lobby.

THE LARAMIE PROJECT tells the heartbreaking, but true, story of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old gay college student who became the fatal victim of a heinous hate crime in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998. After being kidnapped and severely beaten, Shepard was tied to a fence in the middle of a prairie and left for dead. Not discovered until the next day, he died several days later as a result of his injuries.

Fourteen years since his debut at Don't Tell Mama, Marcus Simeone has evolved into a fearless singer who is able to climb inside any song and deliver it home with ease. Aside from eclectic solo work, he has also partnered with others over the years with mixed results. Currently, he has joined forces with two cabaret artists in two totally unrelated songwriter showcases running simultaneously in two different clubs. One salutes a controversial folk pioneer and the other pays homage to three Broadway icons.
The 2015-2016 season for Connecticut Repertory Theatre will begin with a production of The Laramie Project, helmed by CRT's artistic director, Vincent J. Cardinal. The Laramie Project focuses on the aftermath of the murder of Matthew Shepard, an openly gay college student, in Laramie, Wyoming. A collaborative effort amongst members of The Tectonic Theatre Project, spearheaded by Moises Kaufman, the play explores the reactions of a small town when faced with a gruesome event that triggered worldwide media attention. Performances of The Laramie Project begin on October 8 and continue through October 18, 2015 at Connecticut Repertory Theatre's Nafe Katter Theatre.
