A2SO Announces Schedule of Chamber Concerts for March 2016

Join in with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra's Chamber Concert Series at the Jewish - Community Center of Greater Ann Arbor on Monday, March 14th at 1:30 pm. Open to listeners of all ages, this hour long concert will feature Primor Sluchin, harp soloist at the A2SO mainstage concert Harp Magic on Saturday, March 12 and Arie Lipsky, A2SO Conductor and Music Director (flute and cello).

Richmond Symphony's Metro Series to Present BEETHOVEN SYMPHONY NO. 1, 2/21

February 11, 2016 – Richmond, Virginia Join the Richmond Symphony and Music Director Steven Smith on Sunday, February 21 at 3pm for Beethoven: Symphony No. 1. This concert is part of the Metro Collection Series and will be held in the Blackwell Auditorium on the beautiful campus of Randolph-Macon College. The performance includes selections from Stravinsky, Strauss and Beethoven and features Richmond Symphony principal oboist, Gustav Highstein.

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier today, GRAMMY and Tony Award-winning musician Duncan Sheik's American Psycho: Original London Cast Recording will be available on March 25, 2016 via Concord Records. The album's release will coincide with the show's U.S. premiere on Broadway, with previews beginning March 24 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater at 236 West 45th Street in New York City.

National Portrait Gallery to Present LOST IN THE STARS, 2/10

See our collection come to life with monologues and music by students from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The performances, presented in the museum's galleries, will be interspersed with music from the Washington National Opera production of Lost in the Stars. On Feb. 10, compositions will be performed by Duke Ellington students, and on Feb. 17, they will be presented by the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists and chorus members.

California Symphony to Join Cirque de la Symphonie for Special Event, 6/18

WALNUT CREEK, CA (February 9, 2016) - The aerialists, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, strongmen and acrobats of Cirque de la Symphonie join the California Symphony and Music Director Donato Cabrera in the Orchestra's annual fundraising special event, Cirque du Symphonie Presented by Steadauto.com, Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 pm at the historic and beautiful Scottish Rite Center in Oakland. For this performance, the Cirque production team and California Symphony have developed a unique program specifically for the Orchestra and the special characteristics of the Scottish Rite Center. The artists of Cirque de la Symphonie will execute their spectacular feats to music ranging from Bizet's Carmen to John Williams (music from Indiana Jones and Superman), Leonard Bernstein's Candide Overture, Arturo Marquez's Danzon No. 2, Debussy's Clair du lune, Offenbach's Can-Can No. 4, and Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 6, and the orchestra plays music from Aaron Copland (Rodeo from Hoe-Down), Richard Rodgers (Carousel Waltz), and Strauss (Emperor Waltz). All proceeds from the event, presented by steadauto.com, support the California Symphony and its music education programs, including Sound Minds, Music in the Schools, and the organization's respected Young American Composer-in-Residence Program.

Toronto's DanceWorks Series to Present SPORTING LIFE, 3/3

TORONTO (February 9, 2016) -  DanceWorks, Toronto's longest running contemporary dance series, proudly presents Sporting Life, newly re-imagined by acclaimed choreographer Julia Sasso of Julia Sasso dances, 20 years after she  first premiered this striking work at Ottawa's prestigious Canada Dance Festival in 1996. DanceWorks then presented it in 1997, earning multiple Dora Award nominations, including Outstanding Choreography. Rigorously physical, technically and emotionally challenging, Sporting Life runs Thursday March 3 to Saturday March 5 nightly at Harbourfront Centre Theatre as part of Next Steps.
