The Off-Broadway League today announced nominations in 18 categories and one special award for the 2014 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. The Lortel Awards will be handed out on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at NYU Skirball Center beginning at 7:00pm EST, and hosted by acclaimed husband and wife actors and comedians, Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman. Following a widely acclaimed start to its 17th season, South Philadelphia-based Theatre Exile will move to the larger Plays & Players Theatre to present Sam Shepard's modern classic True West. Directed by Exile Associate Artistic Director Matt Pfeiffer, True West features local actors Jeb Kreager and Brian Osborne as brothers Austin and Lee. Performances run January 30 - February 23, 2014. Public Theater Extends GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN Through 12/8

The Public Theater announced a two-week extension for The Foundry Theatre's GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN by Bertolt Brecht. With a translation by John Willett and directed by Lear deBessonet, GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN began performances on Friday, October 18 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, November 24. The show officially opened on Tuesday, October 29 and will now run an additional two weeks to Sunday, December 8.

The Public Theater will begin performances for The Foundry Theatre's GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN by Bertolt Brecht on Friday, October 18. With a translation by John Willett and directed by Lear deBessonet, GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN will run through Sunday, November 24, with an official press opening on Tuesday, October 29.

Laura Benanti, Norm Lewis & More to Lead The Public Theater's Musical Adaptation of THE TEMPEST at Delacorte Theater, 9/6-8

The Public Theater announced today that Todd Almond (Ariel), Laura Benanti (Goddess), Carson Elrod (Caliban), Jeff Hiller (Trinculo), Norm Lewis (Prospero), and Jacob Ming-Trent (Stephano) have been cast in the free, original musical adaptation of THE TEMPEST, part of The Public's groundbreaking new initiative for community-based theater, PUBLIC WORKS. Directed by Public Works Director Lear deBessonet, with music, lyrics and book by Almond, and choreography by Chase Brock, THE TEMPEST will run September 6 through September 8 at 8:00 p.m. at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN Reopens at The Public in October

The Foundry Theatre has announced that its critically acclaimed production of Bertolt Brecht's Good Person of Szechwan will reopen this fall as part of The Public Theater's 2013-14 season. The Public's five-week run of the show, October 18 - November 24, will reunite the entire original cast and creative team-including director Lear deBessonet, Taylor Mac as Shen Tei / Shui Ta, and Cesar Alvarez and the band The Lisps-from the sold-out La MaMa presentation in February 2013. Tickets will go on sale later this year.
