Michael Cerveris, Ruthie Ann Miles and More Set for NYCLU's BROADWAY STANDS UP FOR FREEDOM Benefit Tonight

The New York Civil Liberties Union, the New York State affiliate of the ACLU, welcomes a star-studded lineup for its annual benefit concert. 'Broadway Stands Up for Freedom,' a celebratory event in honor of the recent Supreme Court victory for the freedom to marry, will boast performances by some of Broadway's finest tonight, July 20, at the NYU Skirball Center for Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place).

Eden Espinosa to Headline Benefit for Branford's Legacy Theatre

Eden Espinosa, star of Broadway's Wicked, Rent, and Brooklyn, will headline EDEN ESPINOSA AND FRIENDS, a concert to benefit Legacy Theatre on Thursday, July 16th at 7:00pm. The concert will take place at the Owenego Inn & Beach Club, located at 40 Linden Avenue in Branford, Connecticut. Following the smash success of last year's sold-out WITNESS UGANDA: IN CONCERT, Jonathan Larson Award-winning composer Matt Gould will host the performance, featuring a cast of Broadway stars. Admission is a 'pay what you can' contribution to the Legacy Theatre. Tickets may be reserved at www.buildinglegacytheatre.com.

Christina Bianco, Andrea Burns & More Join BROADWAY STANDS UP FOR FREEDOM Lineup

Jessie Mueller-Led WAITRESS Premiere Kicks Off Rehearsals at A.R.T.; Full Cast Announced!

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus, began rehearsals today (pictured, left) for the world premiere musical Waitress. Based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly the new musical has a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, direction by Diane Paulus, and choreography by Chase Brock.

Jeanna de Waal, Drew Gehling, Keala Settle & More Will Join Jessie Mueller in New Musical WAITRESS at A.R.T.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus, announces the principal casting for the world premiere of Waitress. Based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly the new musical has a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Sara Bareiles, direction by Diane Paulus, and choreography by Chase Brock.

Karen Pittman, Michael Cullen & More to Star in KING LIZ at Second Stage Uptown

Second Stage Theatre  continues the 2015 Uptown Series with the World Premiere of KING LIZ, written by Fernanda Coppel (Chimichangas and Zoloft) and directed by Lisa Peterson.  KING LIZ will feature MICHAEL CULLEN, JEREMIE HARRIS, RUSSELL G. JONES, CAROLINE LAGERFELT, IRENE SOFIA LUCIO, and KAREN PITTMAN.  Previews begin Monday, July 13th and opening night is Monday, July 27th.

INVISIBLE THREAD, Previously Titled WITNESS UGANDA, and Kenny Leon-Helmed SMART PEOPLE Set for Second Stage's 2015-16 Season

Second Stage Theatre has announced two New York Premiere productions for its upcoming 37th season.  The season will kick off in fall 2015 with the New York Premiere production of Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews' new musical, INVISIBLE THREAD (previously titled Witness Uganda), in association with American Repertory Theater, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Pippin).  The season will continue in early 2016 with the New York premiere of Lydia R. Diamond's (Stick Fly) critically acclaimed play, SMART PEOPLE, directed by Tony Award Winner Kenny Leon (Fences, A Raisin in the Sun, Stick Fly). Two additional productions remain to be announced. 

Weston Playhouse Theatre Company Concludes 8th Annual Artists Retreat

 The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company concluded its 8th annual Artists Retreat with an Artists Salon and Reception at the Wilburton Inn in Manchester, Vermont on Saturday afternoon, May 2.  Actors, composers, directors, and playwrights who had spent the week living and working in Weston spoke about and shared examples from their work before an invited group of theatre patrons.

The new Broadway musical An American in Paris is now in previews and just opened last night, April 12, 2015 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway at 47th Street). An American In Paris is directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. Inspired by the Academy-Award winning film, An American In Paris brings this classic tale to Broadway for the first time with music and lyrics by George Gershwinand Ira Gershwin and a book by Tony nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Craig Lucas. The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus, announces the casting of the world premiere of Crossing, an opera by Matthew Aucoin, directed by Diane Paulus, featuring the chamber orchestra A Far Cry, produced in association with Music-Theatre Group.

New Musical THE FIRST NOEL and More Set for Classical Theatre of Harlem's 15th Anniversary Season

The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) announces plans for its landmark 2015 season. The Harlem-based American theatre company will present its 15th Anniversary Celebration and Benefit Concert this spring, featuring songs from the eagerly anticipated musical Witness Uganda, winner of the American Academy of Arts and Letters 2014 Richard Rodgers Production Award for Musical Theater; a free summer production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest; and the winter holiday world premiere of a new CTH-commissioned musical, The First Noel.

Rialto Chatter: Jessie Nelson and Sara Bareilles' WAITRESS Musical Coming to Broadway After Run at A.R.T.?

According to a recent post by the A.R.T. the show already has plans for Broadway! The theatre auctioned off tickets to the show's opening night on Broadway as a part of its 2015 gala, teasing: 'See it in Cambridge before it heads to NYC!' Casting has not yet been announced, but a recent NYC workshop was led by Tony winner Jessie Mueller, Keala Settle, Bryce Pinkham, Christopher Fitzgerald, Barrett Wilbert Weed, and Eric Anderson.

STAGE TUBE: Andrew Keenan-Bolger Directs INVISIBLE THREAD Music Video for Matt Gould & Griffin Matthews

Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Tuck Everlasting, Newsies) has released a new music video by composers Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews (Witness Uganda). Gould and Matthews received the Richard Rodgers Award in 2012 and 2014 for their Broadway bound musical, Witness Uganda. The video, Invisible Thread, is part of a fundraising effort for the educational organization, UgandaProject. Check it out below!

Breaking News: A.R.T. Will Premiere Jessie Nelson and Sara Bareilles' WAITRESS Musical in August 2015

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, led by Artistic Director Diane Paulus, just announced the world premiere of Waitress. Opening theA.R.T.'s 2015-16 Season, this new musical will be directed by Diane Paulus and feature book by Jessie Nelson and music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles. The production will begin performances at the Loeb Drama Center on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Additional creative team and casting will be announced at a later date.

Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews, co-creators of the award-winning and Broadway bound musical 'Witness Uganda,' open the 2014-2015 Eccles Center season with heart-thumping Afro-pop sounds and heart-wrenching stories tonight, November 1. Based on Matthews' personal experience, the concert -and accompanying tales of triumph and tragedy - tackles the question: is changing the world even possible?
