Tony Estrella, artistic director of The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm), has announced the theater's 2015-2016 season. Season 31 includes two undisputed classics, a contemporary favorite, and two works new to Gamm audiences, as described by Estrella:
Keegan Theatre has announced its full 2015-2016 lineup, the inaugural season in the company's renovated theatre. "We are beyond excited to open our next season in our upgraded and modernized facility," says Mark A. Rhea, Keegan's producing artistic director. "We can finally provide our audiences the comfort and facility that they deserve - while keeping the intimacy and feel of the original space."
Jobsite Theater is proud to offer the southeastern United States premiere of Sharr White's hilarious and heartfelt meditation on love and loss, Annapurna, which plays April 29 - May 24, 2015, in the Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center where Jobsite is resident theater company.
On February 19th, I braved the cold and ventured to Main Street in Northport to witness the opening night of Bare Bones Theater Company's production of 'The Pillowman,' by Martin McDonagh. 'With echoes of Stoppard, Kafka, and the Brothers Grimm, THE PILLOWMAN centers on a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a series of child murders. The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.'
If you abhor political incorrectness, violence or a morbid sense of humor then The Lieutenant of Inishmore isn't for you. McDonagh is out to send a message with this play and Constellation Theatre Company gruesomely delivers it.
When Ted Lewis (1940 – 1982) died at the age of 42 he left behind nine novels and the legacy of having pioneered the British noir school of fiction. Whether it was the work of late noir maverick Derek Raymond or the films of celebrated directors like Guy Ritchie and Martin McDonagh, Lewis's work permanently changed the way in which British crime stories are told. His was an uncompromising vision where the brutalities of the underworld are depicted with no embellishments. There are no heroes in a Lewis novel; no Paladin cops putting the clues together, righting wrongs. They are stories about bad people, hardened criminals, doing anything and everything to maintain their position, or more often than not, cling to some final vestige of self-respect.
