Detroit Repertory Theatre to Host RED NIGHT Benefit on Valentine's Day

On Saturday, February 14, 2015, the Detroit Repertory Theatre welcomes the public to an evening of drama, music, romance, sweets and champagne at the Board of Trustees' annual 'RED NIGHT' benefit beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 each and include the powerful and critically acclaimed play SWEET PEA'S MAMA, unlimited Champagne, hors d'oeuvres, the 'Irma Wertz Patron of the Year' Award, and exciting packages to be raffled off.

Knoxville Opera Partners with Gospel Choir for Special Concert Tonight

Multiple standing ovations by a large crowd who have shouted 'hallelujah' at the five previous performances of Knoxville Opera Goes to Church...A Celebration of Talent! The 5th annual concert, sponsored by Home Federal Bank, DV Communications, and The 5th Commandment Fund will feature the Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir and local soloists together with Knoxville Opera artists in a unique presentation of gospel, spirituals, and highlights from the popular opera Carmen. The free-admission concert, one of Knoxville Opera's yearly 75 education/outreachactivities, will take place tonight, January 24, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church, 3800 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Knoxville.

Columbus Symphony's American Roots Celebration to Continue with PORGY AND BESS, 2/20-21

In the second installment of the Columbus Symphony's American Roots Festival, guest bass-baritone Kevin Deas returns to perform some of George Gershwin's greatest music including extensive selections from his glorious opera Porgy and Bess, including “Summertime,” “It Ain't Necessarily So,” “Bess,” and “You Is My Woman Now.” Gershwin's brilliant and bluesy Piano Concerto and an orchestral suite by jazz legend Duke Ellington paying tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. completes the bill. Led by guest conductor John DeMain, the program will also feature guest pianist Xiayin Wang, soprano Jonita Lattimore, and the Columbus Symphony Chorus.

275,000 Students Receive Free Tickets to Academy Award-Nominated SELMA

Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts Honors Civil Rights Activist Rev. Ronald V. Myers Tonight

Rabbi David Baron, Founder of the Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts at the Saban Theatre announced today that he will officiate a free Shabbat service and performance in observance of Martin Luther King Day by honoring Reverend Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D., a renowned civil rights activist, founder & chairman of the modern movement promoting the holiday Juneteenth, Baptist minister, jazz musician and American physician serving the disenfranchised in Tchula, MS. The service will be held tonight, January 16, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. and will feature jazz trumpeter and pianist Ronald V. Myers, Sr. and celebrated jazz guitarist Jacques Lesure.
