This Music We Call Jazz: The Latin Connection Exhibit Comes To NJPAC

New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) Presents "This Music We Call Jazz: The Latin Connection Exhibit," on Sunday, November 4th at 2 p.m."This Music We Call Jazz: The Latin Connection Exhibit," a multi-media display by 16 New Jersey and New York artists, will be the centerpiece of a collaborative tribute to the musical genius of Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Graciela, Eddie Palmieri, and many other personalities associated with Latin-American, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian jazz.

New Exhibit Explores How Race Relations Shaped Morris County

A new exhibition in Morristown explores 300 years of race relation in New Jersey through the lens of Morris County, New Jersey. This is the first comprehensive exhibition to trace the sometimes fraught history of the relationship between blacks and whites in Morris County. It traces early days of slavery to visits from civil rights pioneers including Frederick Douglas, Booker T. Washington, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The exhibition, The Ties That Bind: How Race Relations Shapes Morris County and New Jersey, 1688-2018, asks visitors to take a hard look at the history of race relations in the past and consider ways of moving forward in the current climate of racial tension in America.

BAYARD: A New Musical Gets Debut Performance Dates!

BAYARD: A New Musical directed by Richard Allen with book by Richard Allen, music and lyrics by Taran Gray and Richard Allen, and choreography by Chloe McMillian . The benefit production will raise funds for the performing arts academy of Boys & Girls Harbor. The production will feature the Harbor Performing Arts Elite Ensemble.

The Dessoff Choirs Presents A Trio Of Holiday Concerts This December

Hailed as "one of the great amateur choruses of our time (New York Today) for its "full-bodied sound and suppleness (The New York Times)," The Dessoff Choirs today announced its annual holiday concert series. Now in its 94th year, The Dessoff Choirs continues to wow audiences with its seasonal repertoire performed in some of New York City's most beautiful churches. This season's offerings include a sing-in of Handel's Messiah, contemporary arrangement of carols, and a rare performance of the nine-movement Christmas cantata The Ballad of the Brown King with music by African-American composer Margaret Bonds and text by writer Langston Hughes. (Program details are below.)

BWW Review: Consummate Performance Anchors THE GREAT SOCIETY at History Theatre

Pearce Bunting delivers a visceral gut punch as Lyndon B. Johnson in THE GREAT SOCIETY. Rarely in 50 years of serious theater going have I seen a more fully inhabited physical performance. It's masterful. Menacing and charming by turns, Bunting channels LBJ's ability to manipulate people into positions they didn't originally intend. The arc he travels is long: beginning brash and aggressive, we see him move incrementally into weariness and eventually descend to emotional exhaustion. And all of it is credible.

The North Wall Announces New Creative Associates

American Bard Theater Company Presents the NYC Premiere of YOU WOULDN'T EXPECT

American Bard Theater Company presents the New York City premiere of You Wouldn't Expect, a play written by Marilynn Barner Anselmi examining the staggering truths about the coercive influence of the government-sponsored eugenics program and its direct focus on poverty and race. Cezar Williams directs a cast of eight, including Cherie Danielle, Adiagha Faizah, Carl Fisk, Erin Gilbreth*, Ross G. Hewitt, Malikha Mallette, Okema T Moore*, and Atiya Yanique Taylor. Fifteen performances will be staged at The Chain Theater, 312 West 36th Street in New York City, from September 19-October 7, 2018.
