RIOULT Dance NY to Celebrate 20 Years at The Joyce Theater, 6/17-22

RIOULT Dance NY, a leading American modern dance company with a classic sensibility, will present two unique programs during the June 17-22, 2014 New York Season at The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue (at 19th Street), NYC. The schedule runs:Tuesday at 7:30pm; Wednesday at 7pm; Thursday and Friday at 8pm; Saturday at 2pm & 8pm; and Sunday at 2pm & 7:30pm. Tickets for the 8th annual Chicago Dancing Festival, the free Festival at venues across downtown Chicago, will become available to the general public July 8 and 9. Co-produced by internationally renowned choreographer and native Chicagoan Lar Lubovitch and highly esteemed Chicago dancer Jay Franke, the 2014 Chicago Dancing Festival features top ballet, modern and hip-hop companies from Chicago and across the country, set to take place August 20 - 23.

Co producers, Erin Fogarty and Daniel Ulbrict of the New York City Ballet, present The 4th Annual Dance Against Cancer, the American Cancer Society's signature dance event dedicated to raising funds and supporting the fight against cancer. Guests enjoy cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres, as well as world premiere dance performances from companies including New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham, Norwegian National Ballet, Broadway's finest, many more. Since its inauguration, Dance Against Cancer has raised over $200,000.00 in support of the American Cancer Society.

The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery Presents YOUSUF KARSH: AMERICAN PORTRAITS, Now thru 11/2

In celebration of a major gift to its collection of more than 100 portraits created by master photographer Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002), the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery is installing a special exhibition on the first floor of the museum, 'Yousuf Karsh: American Portraits.' This is the second of two installations and will run from today, May 2 through Nov. 2. A press preview for this installation will be held May 1 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Estrellita Karsh, Karsh's wife, will be in attendance.

Lincoln Center Announces OUT OF DOORS 2014 Summer Festival Lineup; Runs 7/20-8/10

The schedule for this summer's Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, which runs from July 20 to August 10, was announced today by Bill Bragin, Lincoln Center's Director of Public Programming. Nearly 100 free performances will take place across the plazas of Lincoln Center during three weeks. A special Memorial Concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger on July 20 will be followed by the official opening concert on July 23 with Larry Harlow's Hommy: A Latin Opera, the landmark work's first performance in 40 years. Yousuf Karsh: American Portraits Second Installation, May 2 through Nov. 2 This installation includes a second selection of portraits by iconic photographer Yousuf Karsh in celebration of a gift of more than 100 works to the National Portrait Gallery. Photographs include Clark Gable, Martha Graham, Helen Keller, the Apollo XI Crew, Isamu Noguchi, Andy Warhol and Elie Wiesel.

Juilliard Dance, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, opens its 2014-15 season in December 2014 with New Dances: Edition 2014 featuring four world premiere dances by innovative choreographers, Juilliard alumnus Austin McCormick (1st-Year Dancers); alumna Loni Landon (2nd-Year Dancers); Kate Weare (3rd-Year Dancers); and Larry Keigwin (4th-Year Dancers). Mr. Keigwin is returning to Juilliard where he already choreographed and premiered, in December 2008, Runaway, a large-scale piece that riffs on the high fashion runway scene, and in December 2009, Megalopolis.

The young dancers of Columbia University and Barnard College fell back and forth in dance repertory and dared to add their own voices to iconic works at the matinee performance at Miller Theatre, Saturday, April 26th, 2014. Each of the four works provided unique challenges: Andrea Miller's Fall Recover Recover tested their capacity for the essence of modern dance technique, Twyla Tharp's Treefrog in Stonehenge demanded the stamina of a jazzercise class, Martha Graham's Lamentation Variations asked students to reflect upon Graham's legacy with their own minds and bodies, and Robert La Fosse's Concerto for Mr. B thrust the dancers on to their toes.

FY2015 Mark Ryder Original Choreography Grant Applications Now Available

Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) has announced that applications for the FY2015 Mark Ryder Original Choreography Grant Program are now available. This program was established at the bequest of Mark Ryder's family, in honor of his life's work, to recognize individual creative expression, and to provide financial assistance to choreographers to create new original work. A fund has been established at the Columbia Foundation to enable monies to be awarded for this purpose in perpetuity. The grant award recipients will be announced at HCAC's Annual Meeting and Grant Awards Ceremony in September 2014. The minimum grant amount will be $500.

RIOULT Dance NY, a leading American modern dance company with a classic sensibility, has been searching for a long-term home in an effort to better serve the community, grow their patronage and set up a companion school for the company. Recently, Hope Greenfield, chairwoman of Rioult's Board of Directors donated $500,000 through her family foundation, the Gordon and Harriet Greenfield Foundation, to support the company's search.
