BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance and Bryn Cohn + Artists (BC+A) present HOME in a collaborative evening at Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center, 280 Broadway, Gibney Dance Center NYC, from June 16-18, 2016 at 7:30pm.  Celebrating dance and the beauty of age, Dances For a Variable Population (DVP), will present three performances of The Phoenix Project, a citywide public dance project that empowers older adults and reevaluates the aesthetics of aging. This world premiere collaboration will take place in three boroughs-Bronx, Queens and Harlem-over three Todays, June 4, 11 and 13. The Phoenix Project will make its Bronx debut at the New York Botanical Garden's award-winning and picturesque Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden on June 4. In the subsequent weekends, the piece will move with excerpts of the full work to Queens at the Queensbridge Riis Senior Center on June 11, and close their performances as part of the Summer on the Hudson Festival at the West Harlem Piers Park on June 18 as part of a Family Day event.

Buglisi Dance Theatre, celebrating its 23rd anniversary, is proud to present 'Women of Distinction,' a program that celebrates women, June 7-9 at The Ailey Citigroup Theater.  

Four venerable American dance companies are joining forces with Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts (www.usdan.org), just in time for the 2016 summer camp season. Announced today, the troupes -The Ailey Organization, American Ballet Theatre (ABT), Martha Graham, and Pilobolus-- are officially on the Camp's proverbial dance card, further strengthening Usdan's notable offerings for campers from ages four through 18.

Paul Taylor is a trailblazer of modern dance. As one of the most important living American artists, sending his company to perform at The Kennedy Center in the nation's capital is fitting-his choreography is dance Americana. Taylor's company offered two alternating programs. Program B, performed on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, showed the strengths of his choreography's captivating lines, precise musicality, and overall wit.

The League of Professional Theatre Women is pleased to present CARMEN DE LAVALLADE, actress, dancer, choreographer, for the next Oral History interview. She will sit down with dance journalist Deborah Jowitt to discuss her large body of work. The event will take place on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 6:00 pm in the Bruno Walter Auditorium of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts on 65th Street & Amsterdam Avenue. Admission is free, but seats will be on a first-come-first-seated basis.

DanceAfrica, BAM's longest continuing program, enters its 39th year with new Artistic Director Abdel R. Salaam leading this traditional Memorial Day weekend extravaganza, beginning today, May 25, and continuing through May 30.

The Juilliard School will confer honorary doctorates on five remarkable artists during its 111th Commencement Ceremony today, May 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center (Broadway at 65th Street, New York City).

Buglisi Dance Theatre, celebrating its 23rd anniversary, is proud to present 'Women of Distinction,' a program that celebrates women, June 7-9 at The Ailey Citigroup Theater. The season will see a World Premiere by Buglisi, inspired by the first recorded author/poet, as well as Buglisi masterworksRequiem, Sand, Sospiri, Suite:Solos and Duets, and a special performance by Christine Dakin with pianist Brian Zeger. The Opening Night performance will honor Terese Capucilli, Associate Founding Director and Principal Dancer of Buglisi Dance Theatre, and will include a performance by Graham principal dancer Blakeley White-McGuire of Martha Graham's Deep Song (opening night only).

The Exchange today announced the artists and companies selected to participate in the 2016 Orchard Project summer residency program in Saratoga Springs, NY. Twenty-six artists and ensembles were selected from nearly 800 theatre artists to develop their big, new ideas at the Orchard Project this coming summer.

Four acclaimed female choreographers, Elisa Monte, Molissa Fenley, Margo Sappington, and Jennifer Muller join forces this spring in Monte/Molissa/Margo/Muller - LIVE! at New York Live Arts, June 14 through June 18.

I longed to see more. One would love to see the Martha Graham Dance Company commission a new from Ms. Zall. Unlike their usual fare, she clearly understands stagecraft and is able to communicate in the language of their founder. It seems to me that all she needs is the opportunity. Denise Vale, the Graham company's Artistic Associate was in the audience. Perhaps she will communicate what a boon it would be to work with Ms. Zall to her colleagues.

Jacqulyn Buglisi is honored to stage her 'Table of Silence' on 75 dance majors at the University of California, Santa Barbara, May 23 from 12 noon to 1 PM on the second anniversary of the Isla Vista tragedy, in which six UCSB students were killed.  The commemoration will be an opportunity for the campus community to join together to honor the students lost, in a message of hope, peace and healing. Choreographer Buglisi and UCSB express their deep appreciation to John Arnhold, an alumnus of UCSB and major supporter of the arts, for making this moving event possible.  UCSB musicians will accompany the dancers; the mantels and ceramic plates used in 'Table of Silence', performed annually at New York's Lincoln Center since 2011, will be provided by the New York City-based Buglisi Dance Theatre. The commemoration will be streamed live at www.live.id.ucsb.edu  

The League of American Orchestras' 2016 National Conference in Baltimore, June 9-11, will focus on orchestra diversity and inclusion, offering expert speakers from within the field and beyond, as well as a series of plenary and elective sessions on diversifying orchestra musicians, boards of directors, audiences, and the workplace. The Conference will welcome orchestra managers, musicians, staff, trustees, and volunteers from across the U.S.; it is the first League Conference to take place in Baltimore. 

Graham 2's 2016 New York season opens on June 2 with a special benefit performance honoring renowned choreographer and Graham Company alumna Patricia Birch. The opening night program will feature a film by Nancy Stevens, Graham's Maple Leaf Rag, the Puritan Duet from American Document, the premiere of Cyclical Journey by Virginie Mécène, and a special restaged sequence from Grease by Birch. The season also includes Lament from Acts of Light, excerpts from Night Journey and Plain of Prayer, and a duet by guest choreographer Amanda Kreglow.

On May 11, 2016, dancers from the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University will be the first to perform Martha Graham's iconic choreography for APPALACHIAN SPRING with a new version of Aaron Copland's score for full orchestra, completed in collaboration with the Martha Graham Dance Company and the Aaron Copland Fund for Music.
