On Monday, March 24, 2014, The Negro Ensemble Company, Inc. (Charles Weldon, Artistic Director; Karen Brown, Executive Director) and Signature Theatre (James Houghton, Founding Artistic Director; Erika Mallin, Executive Director) will unite in a day-long celebration of the life and works of Tony Award-nominated playwright Leslie Lee. Lee passed away in New York City on January 20, 2014.
Atlantic Theater Company's highly anticipated revival of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's musical The Threepenny Opera, directed and choreographed by Martha Clarke, begins previews tonight, March 12, 2014.
This month, Juilliard Dances Repertory presents repertory works by acclaimed choreographers Eliot Feld, Juilliard alumnus Lar Lubovitch, and Twyla Tharp. Juilliard dancers perform Baker's Dozen by Twyla Tharp; Concerto Six Twenty-Two by Lar Lubovitch; and The Jig is Up by Eliot Feld. All three dances were choreographed between 1979 and 1986, and Juilliard dancers have had the opportunity to learn the dances through intensive work with two of the choreographers - Eliot Feld and Lar Lubovitch - and with Juilliard alumna Shelley Washington, an original member of the cast of Twyla Tharp's work.

Last night Atlantic Theater Company presented their annual Gala at The Pierre (2 East 61st Street). Directed by Neil Pepe with musical direction by Matt Gallagher, Writers' Choice saluted Atlantic's iconic playwrights with an evening of unexpected songs. For this year's Gala, Atlantic asked alumni playwrights to choose a favorite song and a favorite musician to perform it. Writers' Choice featured special tributes to Annie Baker, Martha Clarke, Stephen Adly Guirgis, David Mamet, Conor McPherson, and Doug Wright from presenters and performers Jonathan Cake, Bridget Everett, John Gallagher Jr., Rick Holmes, Brian D'Arcy James, Gary Jules, John Kelly, Zosia Mamet, Julianne Nicholson, Laura Osnes, Michael Park, Mary Beth Peil and Isiah Whitlock, Jr. among others. Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director Jeremy Blocker have announced that Red-Eye to Havre de Grace will begin performances Tuesday, April 22 at 7pm at New York Theatre Workshop, 79 East 4 Street, between Second Avenue and Bowery. Red-Eye to Havre de Grace is by Lucidity Suitcase Intercontinental, created by Thaddeus Phillips, Jeremy Wilhelm, David Wilhelm, Geoff Sobelle, Sophie Bortolussi with Ean Sheehy and music by Wilhelm Bros. & Co. and direction and stage design by Thaddeus Phillips, Opening night is set for Thursday, May 1 at 7pm. Red-Eye to Havre de Grace is scheduled to run through Sunday, June 1, 2014.

The Drama League (Gabriel Shanks, Executive Director; Roger T. Danforth, Artistic Director) has announced the ten artists and theater ensembles chosen to develop new plays and musicals as part of the 2014 Artist Residency Program. The development of these works, which include two 2014 Artists In Residence, Rachel Dickstein/Ripe Time and Jeremy Bloom/Rady&Bloom, will be held at The Drama League Theater Center (32 Avenue of the Americas) in Tribeca from March-July 2014.

Also on the bill will be the world premiere of Raw Nerves, a solo by Demyanenko in collaboration with performer Leah Morrison, and Deja Ve - As a solo, a work by Dai Jian featuring Jian and dancer Austin Selden.

The Wallis has announced that Tony nominee Judy Kuhn (She Loves Me, Chess and Les Miserables) and Tony winner and five-time Emmy nominee John Glover (Love! Valour! Compassion!, 'Smallville') will star in Love, Noel: The Letters and Songs of Noel Coward, devised and written by Coward authority Barry Day, and directed by Jeanie Hackett, who over saw The Antaeus Theatre production of Noel Coward's Tonight at 8:30 and the three-year development of the Antaeus production of Coward's Peace in Our Time. The musical direction and piano accompaniment is by David O. Due to popular demand, additional performances have been added and Love, Noel will now be performed February 14 through 23 in the Lovelace Studio Theater.
