The Players Theatre continues their annual holiday tradition of presenting A Christmas Carol the Musical for the ninth year. The production is a warm and uplifting adaptation of the classic Dickens tale that celebrates the essence of holiday spirit. With original music by Michael Sgouros, played by a live percussion trio, the show is wrapped in the warmth of joy, suspense and a sprinkling of tender-hearted redemption.
A delightful abridged version of 'Scrooge,' the Leslie Bricusse musical adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol,' is now being staged at the rustic Big Oak Theatre in Chatsworth.
Merrimack Repertory Theatre's production of Tony Brown's adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL has Joel Colodner as the author performing his own work in front of an audience. Directed by Megan Sandberg-Zakian, this inventive version is enhanced and enriched by the musical accompaniment of Rebecca White and Nathan Leigh.
Portland Playhouse's fun, festive, family favorite A CHRISTMAS CAROL transforms the Hampton Opera Center into Dickensian England, directed by Brian Weaver and Cristi Miles for a run through December 30. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
The Milwaukee Rep boasts the second-longest-running professional production of the Charles Dickens classic in the country, and given the magnificent caliber of its set and costume design, stage direction, original score, veteran actors, and touch of Panto-style (interactive) theater, this is one 'Carol' that will undoubtedly continue to be sung for decades to come.
During the holiday season, many people flock to church to find solace, seek forgiveness, practice introspection, and soak up lessons on how to live their lives. Something about this time of year encourages all of us to examine how we have conducted ourselves the previous 11 months. Theatre has been my church for a long time now, and luckily The Sacramento Theatre Company is there to give me periodic reminders of the values that are important to keep close.

Since The Boys of St. Matthews burst onto the theatre scene with their 2015 production of Tartuffe, they have been a reliable source of hilarity and dick jokes. Thankfully, the Christmas stories in JESUS CHRIST! let these young men do what they do best--kidnap teachers and put on the most offensive versions of classic plays they can. This time around, we get a mashup of Christmas Carol and the story of Jesus' birth with some exceptionally intense Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman thrown in. Also, there's a turkey. This is not a story for the prudish, as evidenced by the four people who walked out on opening night, but for those who want an excellent night out at a show that is so jam-packed with jokes you can barely catch your breath, get your tickets immediately.
A tradition returns to Columbus Children's Theatre this holiday season with Mr. Scrooge, written by CCT's Artistic Director William Goldsmith, running now through December 23, 2017. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
Tailor Made Hometown 'A CHRISTMAS CAROL' Charles Dickens himself would most likely approve of the charming version of his classic story of miserly Ebeneezer Scrooge and his influence over everyone in a quaint hometown. The Shaw Festival's Artistic Director Tim Carroll has programmed A CHRISTMAS CAROL in their intimate Royal George Theatre for the first time ever this holiday season and by all accounts it was a smashing success even before it opened--the show sold out all of it's near 6 weeks weeks before an audience set foot in the theatre-- and has already started selling tickets for the 2018 production.
It's a story most of us have heard or witnessed before. Crotchety and greedy old Ebenezer Scrooge, complaining about the poor, turning down the invitation of his nephew to Christmas dinner, and begrudgingly giving Bob Cratchit the day off for Christmas. We fondly remember past portrayals of Scrooge face to face with the ghost of his ex-partner Jacob Marley, flying through the past and present with amiable spirits and having a change of heart after coming face to face with his own death. At Hartford Stage this season, the story comes to life once again in the form of A CHRISTMAS CAROL A GHOST STORY OF CHRISTMAS. The classic story by Charles Dickens and as adapted and originally directed by Michael Wilson is an annual tradition for Hartford Stage, and one that takes on new life in this, its 20th anniversary.
Kate Pazakis and her talented creative team once again incorporate their 'secret sauce' in concocting a most delicious holiday treat for Rockwell revelers - THE UNAUTHORIZED MUSICAL PARODY OF HOME ALONE. The 1990 John Hughes classic Home Alone receives Pazakis' UMPO treatment, resulting in a most side-splitting production with their clever choice of pop songs, re-worded to 'fit' the Home Alone narrative, and boosted by the always witty (and subtly topical) dialogue of Ray Wetmore and Pazakis.
The holidays in Dallas would not be complete without the gorgeously wrapped trees of Mockingbird, Mariah Carey, and a production of A Christmas Carol. For at least ten years now, Dallas Theatre Center has brought the wintry story to life right in the heart of balmy Texas. Though the adaptation isn't the most dramaturgically sound, the production is flashy and fun, especially for young families.
A Christmas Carol cast features Milwaukee Rep favorite Jonathan Wainwright (Of Mice of Men, A Christmas Carol), reprising his role as Scrooge, portraying one of Dicken's most recognizable characters.
