Gotham Chamber Opera and Tectonic Theater Project Present EL GATO CON BOTAS at New Victory Theater

Following on the heels of last year's sensational Il mondo della luna at the Hayden Planetarium, Gotham Chamber Opera announces that The New 42nd Street presents, at The New Victory Theater, a Gotham Chamber Opera and Tectonic Theater Project production in association with Blind Summit Theatre, Xavier Montsalvatge's El gato con botas (Puss in Boots), a stunning new production of the classic children's tale directed by Moisés Kaufman and conducted by Neal Goren, which will be presented in October 2010.

The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents the award-winning musical comedy, 'The Drowsy Chaperone,' Friday, Sept. 10-Sunday, Oct. 3. HOWL! Arts Project Begins Month-long Series at Theatre 80 9/10-12

HOWL! Arts Project and The Actors Fund present HOWL! ARTS PROJECT 2010, a month-long series of theater, performance art, music, poetry, film, entertainment for and by kids, and much more at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place). Proceeds benefit HOWL! HELP, an emergency services assistance and health fund for eligible and qualifying East Village artists, administered by The Actors Fund.

BYCA Hires Two New Artistic Staff Members

The Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy (BYCA) today announced it has hired two new artistic staff members - Elizabeth Woodhouse has joined in the new position of Associate Music Director and David Harris has joined as the new conductor of BYCA's growing Young Men's Ensemble.

Jerry Herman, Bill T. Jones, Oprah, McCartney & Haggard Named Kennedy Center Honorees

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced the selection of the individuals who will receive the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors. Recipients to be honored at the 33rd annual national celebration of the arts are: singer and songwriter Merle Haggard; composer and lyricist Jerry Herman; dancer, choreographer and director Bill T. Jones; songwriter and musician Paul McCartney; and producer, television host and actress Oprah Winfrey.

MetTalks Kicks Off on September 22 With Das Rheingold

14th Annual FringeNYC Opens, 8/13

The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), the largest multi-arts festival in North America, will present the 14th Annual Festival from August 13th - 29th, 2010. FringeNYC shows run 2pm - midnight weekdays and noon - midnight on weekends. Tickets are $15 in advance beginning July 23 at www.FringeNYC.org or 866-468-7619; $18 at the door, subject to availability.

Kyle Abraham Dances Into Jacob's Pillow, 8/11-15

Dancer/choreographer Kyle Abraham brings his company Abraham.In.Motion to Jacob's Pillow, America's longest-running international dance festival, August 11-15. Abraham, called a dancer of 'equal parts power and grace' by Steve Sucato of Dance Magazine, has performed with David Dorfman Dance, Nathan Trice/Rituals, and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. He founded Abraham.In.Motion in 2005 to focus on his own choreography, which deals with issues of personal and global importance. The company will perform excerpts from The Radio Show, which explores the function of radio and memory in urban history, culture, and community; Inventing Pookie Jenkins, a solo for Abraham that deals with perceptions of masculinity and identity; and Op. 1, a world premiere inspired by the photography of Eadweard Muybridge, co-commissioned by Jacob's Pillow and created in part during a Pillow Creative Development Residency.
