Regional Dance Company of the Week: Mark Morris Dance Group, NY

The Mark Morris Dance Group was formed in 1980 and gave its first concert that year in New York City. The company's touring schedule steadily expanded to include cities both in the U.S. and in Europe, and in 1986 it made its first national television program for the PBS series Dance in America. In 1988, MMDG was invited to become the national dance company of Belgium, and spent three years in residence at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. The company returned to the United States in 1991 as one of the world's leading dance companies, performing across the U.S. and at major international festivals.

Alexei Ratmansky 3-Part Premiere, LE CORSAIRE and More Set for American Ballet Theatre's 2013 Season at the Met, 5/13-7/6

American Ballet Theatre's 2013 season at the Metropolitan Opera House, May 13-July 6 will be highlighted by the World Premiere of a three-part work set to music by Dmitri Shostakovich and choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, the Company Premiere of Sir Frederick Ashton's A Month in the Country and a new production of Le Corsaire. Tickets for ABT's Spring Season at the Metropolitan Opera House are on sale now at the box office

Martita Goshen's Earthworks to Premiere TURNING HOME at Mark Morris Dance Center, 4/18-20

Martita Goshen's Earthworks - 9 dancers joined by female equestrian and jockey Janice Blake Baeza - will premiere her 'Turning Home,' a tribute in dance and film to the greatness and goodness of American thoroughbred racehorses Barbaro and the brilliant Ruffian, who both died tragically and too soon. The one-hour work has original music by Art Baron of the Duke's Men, and Grammy Award-winning cellist/composer David Darling, and video by Peter Richards. Three performances, April 18-20, at the Mark Morris Dance Center, 3 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn.

BAM150, Brooklyn Academy of Music Documentary, to Air on THIRTEEN, 4/19

To commemorate its sesquicentennial, BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) commissioned BAM150, a feature length documentary conceived by award-winning director Michael Sladek that weaves together the institution's vibrant past, present, and future presenting a rich history that mirrors the evolution of performing arts in 20th century America. This landmark film premiered last year at the Tribeca Film Festival and will air on Friday, April 19 at 10pm on THIRTEEN.

Rare Photos of Dancers From the Royal Ballet of Cambodia -- By Trudy Garfunkel

MEMORY PRESERVED: GLASS PLATES PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE ROYAL CAMBODIAN DANCERS, an exhibit of rare images of five principal women dancers from the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, will be on display in the United States for the first time at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center (Shelby Cullom Davis Museum, Plaza Corridor Gallery). The exhibition runs from March 28th to May 11th, 2013.

Sean Shepherd Previews New Composition for St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble in OSL@DMC Series Today

Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) next free OSL@DMC event at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music will feature American composer Sean Shepherd previewing his new commission for St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble. Mr. Shepherd will share his thoughts, insights and inspirations, and members of OSL will play excerpts from his new composition. The world premiere of Mr. Shepherd's Quintet will take place at OSL's next chamber series program, entitled Spin Paris, March 3 - 8, 2013. This is his first composition for OSL.

Luminato Announces 2013 Premiere Series

Luminato today announced three extraordinary offerings of theatre, music and dance - two Canadian premieres and a world premiere - as part of the 7th Annual Luminato Festival running June 14 - 23, 2013. Packaged together as the Premiere Series, tickets go on sale March 20.

Handel and Haydn Society and Artistic Director Harry Christophers Announce 2013-­2014 Season

The Handel and Haydn Society (H&H) and Artistic Director Harry Christophers announce the 2013–2014 Season, its 199th since the founding of the ensemble in 1815, featuring the Period Instrument Orchestra and Chorus performing works from the Baroque and Classical eras. The 2013–2014 Season continues H&H's exploration of historically significant works introduced and premiered in the US by the Handel and Haydn Society as part of the preparations for the Bicentennial celebrations in 2015. The cornerstone of the upcoming season is Handel's Samson, premiered in America by H&H in 1845.
