Westport Country Playhouse stages the madcap American comedy, 'Room Service,' about a producer and his ragtag bunch of cohorts who try to raise money for a Broadway show as they scramble to evade their hotel bill, written by John Murray and Allen Boretz, directed by Mark Lamos, now through October 27. Nathan Lane, Harold Prince, Angela Lansbury, Laura Osnes, Harriet Harris, Kate Burton, Kristine Nielsen, Alfred Uhry will salute actress Dana Ivey and arts patron Barbara Fleischman at The Acting Company's Gala on Monday, October 21 at Capitale. Ms. Ivey will receive the John Houseman Award recognizing her profound commitment to the development of American actors and a national audience for the theater. Ms. Fleischman will be presented the Warburg Humanitarian Award for her outstanding philanthropic endeavor and support of the arts. Harriet Harris (Cinderella) and Barclay Collins are Gala Chairs, Nathan Lane (The Nance) and Hal Prince (21 Tony Award winner) will present the awards; Stephen DeRosa (Boardwalk Empire) will host, Laura Osnes (Cinderella) will perform. Tributes will be offered by a host of celebrities. Three hundred guests complete an industry-filled audience of producers, directors, entertainers and other notables including TheHonorable Thomas Kean, record producer Clive Davis, playwrights Alfred Uhry and Elizabeth Egloff, actresses Angela Lansbury (upcoming in London's Blithe Spirit), Debra Monk (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Kate Burton (Scandal), Kristine Nielsen(Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike) and Patricia Conolly, directors Nicholas Martin (Vanya and Sonia and Masha an Spike),Jack O'Brien (Macbeth), Mark Lamos (Harbor) and Walter Bobbie (Venus in Fur) and producers Jack Viertel, James Houghtonand Edgar Lansbury.

American Ballet Theatre's 2014 season at the Metropolitan Opera House was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The season will be highlighted by the Company Premiere of Frederick Ashton's Cinderella, and a Shakespeare Celebration to include Ashton's The Dream and Alexei Ratmansky's The Tempest. Season revivals include Leonide Massine's Gaîté Parisienne and Kenneth MacMillan's Manon.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Westport Arts Awards, Westport Country Playhouse is currently presenting a lobby exhibit featuring past Award winners who have been associated with the historic theater, now through October 27.

Primary Stages has announced that Richard Topol (Broadway's The Normal Heart, The Merchant of Venice) will assume the role of Yogi Berra in their World Premiere production of Bronx Bombers, written and directed by Tony Award nominee Eric Simonson (Broadway's Lombardi). Due to artistic differences, Joe Pantoliano, initially announced to play the role of Yogi Berra, will not continue with the production. The production has delayed its first performance to tonight, September 20. Opening night remains scheduled for October 8 at 7pm. Bronx Bombers runs through October 19 at Primary Stages at The Duke on 42nd Street.

WORKSHOP THEATER COMPANY has announced the world premiere production of Lou-Lou Igbokwe's IYOM, directed by Jessica Creane. IYOM will play a four-week limited engagement at WorkShop Theater Company's Main Stage (312 West 36th Street, 4th Floor). Performances begin tonight, September 19 and continue Saturday, October 12. Opening Night is Saturday, September 21 (8 p.m.). Press are invited to all performances.

Over 400 guests attended Westport Country Playhouse's annual fundraising gala, 'Sophisticated Lady: A Gala Evening Honoring Phylicia Rashad,' on Monday evening, September 16. In addition to honoring the Tony Award-winning actress, arts advocate and philanthropist Howard J. Aibel of Weston was presented with the Westport Country Playhouse Leadership Award. Special ticket offers will be available to local theater groups and educators for Westport Country Playhouse's "Room Service," a backstage comedy about the business of putting on a play, written by John Murray and Allen Boretz, and directed by Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director.

To kick off its production of the show business farce "Room Service," Westport Country Playhouse will host a free film screening of another backstage comedy, "Bullets Over Broadway," directed by Woody Allen, on Sunday, October 6, 4 p.m., in the Playhouse's Sheffer Studio. The screening is free-of-charge by reservation through the Playhouse box office at 203-227-4177. Free popcorn and beverages will be available.

Wendy Makkena (Broadway's Side Man) and C.J. Wilson (Happy Now? at Primary Stages, Broadway's The Big Knife, Glengarry Glen Ross) will play Carmen Berra and Babe Ruth respectively in the production featuring previously announced Francois Battiste (Broadway's Magic/Bird), Chris Henry Coffey (Off-Broadway's Water by the Spoonful), Bill Dawes (Broadway's Lombardi), Christopher Jackson (Broadway's In the Heights,Memphis), Keith Nobbs (Broadway's Lombardi), Joe Pantoliano (Emmy Award winner from HBO's 'The Sopranos') and John Wernke (Broadway's The Lyons). Westport Country Playhouse announces its 2014 season of five productions, from acclaimed playwrights Noel Coward, Ingmar Bergman, Alan Ayckbourn, and Lynn Nottage, playing next year from April through October. Under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos, 2014 will mark the Connecticut professional theater's 84th season.
