Playing for Change Performs Live at Mesa Arts Center 11/12

Charlotte Street Foundation’s Urban Culture Project Presents INSTALLATION OPERETTAS: MOON BEARS AND SISTER WIVES, 10/23 & 11/6

Charlotte Street Foundation's Urban Culture Project is thrilled to present Installation Operettas: Moon Bears and Sister Wives, a series of two unique performances conceived and curated by composer, musician, performer, and sculptor Mark Southerland, a 2008 Charlotte Street Generative Performing Artist Award Fellow. Performances take place October 23 and November 6, 2009, 8pm, at Urban Culture Project's la Esquina, 1000 West 25th Street, KCMO.

Crown Center Presents Coterie's MAUL OF THE DEAD, Closes 10/31

It's time to celebrate the era of polyester, disco, punk rock and platform shoes! The year is 1978 and the dead rise once again to terrorize Coterie audiences trapped in Crown Center's Off Centre Theatre during Maul of the Dead, October 16 - 31. The world premiere, by Mitch Brian and directed by Ron Megee, is inspired by the favorite zombie movie of all time, Dawn of the Dead. Maul of the Dead is part of the Coterie At Night series that brings evening-only performances to older audiences.

Edward Zwick Wins Academy Board of Governors Election Run-Off

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that Edward Zwick has prevailed in the run-off for the open Directors Branch seat on the 2009-2010 Board of Governors; this will be his first term on the Board. Zwick will join Martha Coolidge and Curtis Hanson as the third governor representing the branch.

Photo Flash: The Brand New Kid At South Coast Repertory, Runs 5/29 - 6/14

South Coast Repertory will present The Brand New Kid, a musical lesson in tolerance and acceptance, adapted from Emmy Award-winning author Katie Couric's book, as part of its Theatre for Young Audience (TYA) series. Directed by Shelley Butler, with book by Melanie Marnich, music by Michael Friedman and lyrics by both, The Brand New Kid will run May 29 through June 14 on the Julianne Argyros Stage. Low-priced previews are available May 29 - June 5. Opening day is June 6. Press performance is May 31 at 2:00 p.m. All children who attend the 11:00 a.m. Target Family Performance on Saturday, June 6 will receive a free gift.
