Theatre Aspen Announces Casting for 2012 Season

Theatre Aspen today announced casting for its summer season, opening with the Tony Award-winning musical comedy Avenue Q, on June 25th. The season also includes the new musical How I Became a Pirate, based on the beloved children's book by Melinda Long (July 10th - Aug 18th) and the film noir thriller The 39 Steps (July 25th - Aug 18th).

Theatre Aspen Tickets Go on Sale 4/16 for Summer Season

Theatre Aspen today announced that single tickets and passes for the summer season will go on sale April 16th. Deals include customizable season passes for both two or three shows, discounted preview passes and the popular Local's Pass ($20 off 2- and 3-show passes), for valley residents willing to attend within a specific date range.

The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati will bring the world premiere of "Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale" to the Taft Theatre, March 23-25 and 31. Music and Lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman. The show is being directed by Artistic Director, Angela Powell Walker.

Moving Image Master Class Series Opens With Production Designer Mark Friedberg, 3/25

To inaugurate a new quarterly series of in-depth conversations with top behind-the-scenes talent from film, television, and video-game production, Museum of the Moving Image will present an afternoon with celebrated production designer Mark Friedberg. In coming months, the Moving Image Master Class series will feature leading cinematographers, editors, special-effects artists, game designers, and more. "The Master Class series is in keeping with the Museum's mission to not only show the best moving image works, but also to explore the creative and collaborative process," said Executive Director Carl Goodman.

Theatre Aspen's annual benefit gala will be held on Saturday, March 10th at the Hotel Jerome. The evening will feature dinner, DJ, silent and live auctions, games and dancing. CK Swett, a rising star in the world of auctioneering, will preside over the live auction. Swett, recently profiled in the New York Times, is also set to headline the TheatreWorks USA 50th Anniversary gala on February 12th.

On January 26, The Arvada Center opens the children's theater production How I Became a Pirate, book, music and lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, directed by David and Julie Payne. The stage production is based on the book, How I Became a Pirate written by Melinda Long and Illustrations by David Shannon. The show will run January 26 - March 9 in the Center's Main Stage Theater before moving to the intimate Black Box Theater March 21 - April 14, 2012. Performances are 10am and noon, Tuesday through Friday, Saturdays at 11am - February 18, 25 and March 2 and 11am and 1pm, April 7 and 14.
