Leonard Slatkin To Conduct NY Premiere of Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Flute Concerto with Principal Flute Robert Langevin

Leonard Slatkin will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct the New York Premiere of The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Flute Concerto, with Principal Flute Robert Langevin as soloist; Copland's El Salon Mexico; Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit (orchestrated by Marius Constant), marking the Philharmonic's first time performing the complete work; and Ravel's Bolero, Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. (performed without intermission); and Saturday, November 1 at 8:00 p.m.

Musiqa to Bring TIME IN MOTION to The Hobby Center, 3/22

Musiqa, winner of the 2013 Chamber Music America/American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music, presents its spring concert, Time in Motion, at the Hobby Center's Zilkha Hall on Saturday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. In collaboration with NobleMotion Dance and Houston Cinema Arts Society, Musiqa's concert features an eclectic program that explores the concept of time in new music and how it integrates with elements of movement in dance and film.

Riverside Symphony to Feature Works from Four Centuries at Lincoln Center, 2/4

Music Director George Rothman will lead Riverside Symphony in a program bridging the Renaissance to the present day on Saturday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. The program will open with a rare performance of Vivaldi's Concerto in D for Lute featuring the young Mexican virtuoso Dieter Hennings in his New York concerto debut.

Houston Grand Opera Studio Artists Awarded at Plácido Domingo Operalia Competition

Houston Grand Opera Studio artist, Nathaniel Peake won the Zarzuela prize and Studio alumnus Ryan McKinny won the Birgit Nilsson prize at Placido Domingo's Operalia competition on Sunday, May 2. The weeklong worldwide competition took place this year at famed Milanese opera house Teatro alla Scala- this was the first time the contest has been hosted in Italy.

Met Opera Announces Its 2010 National Council Auditions Winners

The Metropolitan Opera today announced the winners of the 2010 National Council Auditions. They are: Leah Crocetto of Oxford, Connecticut; Lori Guilbeau of Golden Meadow, Lousiana; Elliot Madore of Toronto, Canada; Nathaniel Peake of Humble, Texas; and Rachel Willis- Sørensen of Tri-Cities, Washington. The winners were selected from nine finalists who performed arias with the Met Orchestra, conducted by Marco Armiliato. Each winner receives a cash prize of $15,000 and even more importantly, the opportunity to launch a major operatic career.
