He has written a seriocomedy, 'My Wife in a Chador,' in which a Pulitzer Prize nominated author resembling Norman Mailer is recruited to run for Mayor of New York. Coincidentally the author's wife, who is half Arabic, is mugged on the mean streets and is so traumatized by the crime that she decides to return to her Islamic roots and adopt the chador (head covering). The question then becomes: can a man campaigning with an Islamic wife win the mayoralty of our city? When his main opponent is revealed to having been funded by an Emir with terrorist ties, the Mayoral race becomes more than a frolic for the writer -- and the stakes rise considerably higher. Theater for the New City will present the play's world premiere tonight, November 6 to 23, directed by Stephan Morrow.
From today, October 21 to November 8, August Strindberg Repertory will transport Strindberg's 'Miss Julie' to an antebellum Louisiana plantation in a new interpretation conceived by Artistic Director Robert Greer and adapted by Edgar Chisholm from a translation by Greer. The production will include a ballet sequence, which Strindberg specified in the original manuscript and which has never been performed before. The piece will be directed by Robert Greer and choreographed by Ja' Malik.

So he goes to bed with a multitude of women, seeking ideas and stimulation, feeding on them both humanly and artistically. Nino is sexually impotent until he gets a good idea, and then he's hellfire. But his sexual partners, all artists in their own right, are not satisfied. Rallied by a wealthy feminist American widow, they decide that to be a muse is to be exploited. So they exact revenge by making a movie of Nino's life and fantasies, Candid Camera-Style. Thus unfolds 'Six Passionate Women' by Mario Fratti, a play inspired by the playwright's personal acquaintance with Fellini, whom he covered closely as a journalist in the late 1950s. It combines a serious disquisition on the creative mind with recurring themes of Fratti's plays: betrayal, jealousy and sexual politics. Theater for the New City will present the piece today, October 9 to 26, directed by Stephan Morrow. Dennis Parlato, as the film maker, heads a cast of eight that is peppered with Broadway vets. Five theater artists will be honored by the Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee during the presentation of its 2014 Awards in a luncheon ceremony scheduled for October 6. Bob Crowley (The Glass Menagerie), Linda Cho (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Justin Townsend (Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play) and G. Lucas Crane and Keith Skretch (This Was the End) will be honored with 2014 Henry Hewes Design Awards. Three of the five are receiving his or her first Henry Hewes Design Award. Bob Crowley was previously honored in 2007 for his work with Scott Pask on The Coast of Utopia. For the 2014 honors, 91 theater artists were nominated for outstanding artistry in 59 productions presented during the 2013-2014 New York theater season. Italian realist playwright Carlotta Corradi was awarded the first Mario Fratti Award for Emerging Italian Playwrights on June 24 at the concluding event of the In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY, which was held at Italian Cultural Institute, 686 Park Ave. The award recognizes her new play, 'Via dei Capocci,' which was given a staged reading by the Festival the day before at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue.
The winner of the first Mario Fratti Award for emerging Italian authors, a program of the In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY, will be 'Via Dei Capocci' by Carlotta Corradi. The play will be staged as a reading on June 23 at 7:00 PM at Theater for the New City (155 First Ave.) as an event of the Festival.

PASSAJJ Productions is proud to present Once/Twice, two musical adaptations by veteran composer and lyricist Paul Dick (A For Adultery, Madame Bovary). Once is an adaptation of the short play A Sunny Morning by Serafin and Joaquin Quintero, while Twice is based on The Bear by Anton Chekhov. Once/Twice will be directed by Celine Rosenthal, with music direction by Ming Aldrich-Gan. This production will open tonight, May 16th at 8pm and run through June 1st at Roy Arias Stage IV at the Times Square Arts Center, 300 West 43rd Street in New York City.
Voyage Theater Company and B2Y Entertainment present the World Premiere of the play-within-a-play comedy INTERMISSION by Daniel Libman. Directed by Wayne Maugans, previews begin tonight, May 2 at The Clurman Theatre at Theatre Row. Opening is slated for Thursday, May 8. INTERMISSION is performed without an intermission.
Kairos Italy Theater, the preeminent Italian theater company in NYC, will present its second In Scena! Italian Theater Festival (www.inscenany.com) in all five boroughs from June 9 to 24, 2014. The event will feature six full productions and four readings. Production highlights include 'Hanno tutti ragione' (Everybody's Right), performed by Iaia Forte, a leading actress in Paolo Sorrentino's film 'The Great Beauty' (Best Foreign Language Film, 2014 Academy Awards). The play is based on a book by Sorrentino. Other programming highlights include a series of plays and readings dealing with soccer, celebrating the 2014 Soccer World Cup.
August Strindberg's 'To Damascus, Part 1' will be adapted to Harlem, 1962 in the next production of August Strindberg Repertory Theatre (www.strindberg.org). The play will be presented with a multi-racial cast today, April 18 to May 11 at the Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street (East Village).
