Announcing the Co-Directors of OpenICE and Launching the Second Season

With the launch of the second season of OpenICE, a multi-year program to engage new listeners for contemporary music through an outpouring of programming that is free and open to the public, the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) announces the appointment of Ryan Muncy (ICE saxophonist) and Alice Teyssier (ICE flutist/vocalist) as the new Co-Directors of OpenICE. Muncy and Teyssier have been members of ICE since 2014 and, in addition to their musical roles, serve in the capacities of Director of Institutional Giving and Artistic Operations Associate, respectively.

Brooklyn Music Venue National Sawdust Releases Complete Lineup for Inaugural Season

Composer Paola Prestini, the Creative and Executive Director of National Sawdust (NS), today announced programming for the non-profit's inaugural fall season in its new home-a $16 million, 13,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art chamber hall in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The performance and recording venue, designed by Brooklyn-based architecture firm Bureau V in the shell of century-old former sawdust factory, will provide composers and musicians a setting in which they can flourish, and a place where they are given commissioning support, mentoring and other critical resources essential to create, and then share, their work. For audiences-serious fans and casual listeners alike-the venue will be a place to discover genre-spanning music at accessible ticket prices.

From May 17 to 19 at Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre at Peter Norton Symphony Space, Underworld Productions Opera (UPO) will present 'TROUBLEfuturesongs,' an evening of Leonard Bernstein's 'Trouble in Tahiti' plus the staged premieres of two shorts: 'Voice for a Future Nightingale' by Justine F. Chen and 'Outerborough Songs' by Thomas Deneuville. The evening explores desire, denial and domestication in the context of these three short operas, each of which has a couple at its center. The evening is conceived and directed by Gina Crusco and will be conducted by Mark Shapiro.
