NUESTRA PASTORELA is written by David Lozano and Jeffry Farrell and is presented in Austin by Teatro Vivo. This is an adaptation of a Mexican Pastorela; a traditional retelling of the Nativity told from the shepherds' perspective. Traditionally, the shepherds must defy the temptations of the seven deadly sins set posed by the devil follow the star to Bethlehem. This story sets the tone for the holiday season with the important message that good will always triumph over evil. In this comedic variation, the traditional Pastorela receives a humorous makeover and the three shepherds at the center of the story are portrayed as clowns.
The Mexican Museum announces the grand opening of the new exhibition, Fascination with Fauna: The Portrayal of Animals in Pre-Hispanic Art (Fascinacion con la Fauna: Representacion de Animales en el Arte Pre-Hispanico).The exhibition opens to the public on Thursday, Dec. 15 and runs through Feb. 26, 2017. Featuring art from the museum's renowned Pre-Hispanic collection, the exhibition will communicate the significance of animals in nature, religion, society, and art to three cultures from early Mexico (the Nayarit, Colima, and Zapotec), Central America, and Peru.

Valentina Kozlova's next project is her annual 'Nutcracker Winter Suite,' December 3, 7 PM, at Symphony Space, Broadway and 95th Street, NYC. Joining the students at Kozlova's Dance Conservatory, located in midtown Manhattan, are Kozlova students Nikita Boris and Justin Valentine. The exceptional teen dancers, participating in Kozlova's Competition last June, were awarded scholarships to the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, selected by Academy director Nikolai Tsiskaridze. Justin will return to St. Petersburg after the performances to continue his one-year scholarship. Nikita, now 16 years old, completed her scholarship and entered the October Vaganova Prix, where she received a special award for artistry and was further honored with an invitation to perform a solo from Giselle on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.
