In celebration of Carnegie Hall's 125th anniversary season, the Weill Music Institute (WMI) launches THE SOMEWHERE PROJECT, a citywide exploration of WEST SIDE STORY. This unique creative learning project will engage people through events in all five boroughs of New York City, anchored by a large-scale production of WEST SIDE STORY.
Following the success of its first series at City Winery in the 2014-15 season, cp2 (Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players) returns to the venue for a fall series pairing unique mixed instrumental groups with vocalists. Three one-hour programs at noon on October 25, November 22, and December 20 each feature a different singer showcasing styles including classical, soul, and jazz. Brunch will be available for purchase before and during the performances, and patrons are encouraged to dress casually.
Baltimore, MD (September 21, 2015) -- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra today announced several orchestra personnel updates at the start of its Centennial season. The BSO's rigorous selection process draws from a national pool of exceptionally talented musicians and involves multiple rounds of auditions before a panel of peer musicians from the Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop. New players who join the Orchestra complete a probationary period of 16 months with the ensemble before they are granted tenure. The residency will be comprised of three visits with the Orchestra, collaborative education activities with Baltimore City students, participation in a V-log on BSOMusic.org, a visit to an OrchKids school site, a collaboration with the Baltimore Museum of Art, and two performances of her orchestral music, culminating in the world premiere of a new work, commissioned by Bonnie McElveen-Hunter for the BSO and Music Director Marin Alsop in honor of Baltimore philanthropists Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker. Clyne, 35, known for her collaborations with cutting edge visual artists, dancers, and artists of multiple genres, will compose a piece for full orchestra that will be inspired by the contemporary art collection at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The work will have its world premiere at The Music Center at Strathmore on May 7, 2016 and will be performed at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on May 8, 2016.

The Public Theater will kick off the 2015-16 season in September with a free Public Works musical adaptation of Homer's THE ODYSSEY, conceived and directed by Public Works Director Lear deBessonet, with music, lyrics and book by Todd Almond. THE ODYSSEY will once again feature over 200 actors and community members alongside five equity actors, including this year Brandon Victor Dixon as Odysseus and Karen Olivo as Penelope.
