Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch to Launch Extended Residency at The Carlyle this Fall

The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, will welcome Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch back to Bemelmans Bar for an extended Sunday night residency. The upcoming performances will build upon their recent run of shows in the intimate, storied New York City lounge, favorites not only of music fans and critics, but also of fellow artists. Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch shows are a place where some of the city's foremost entertainers go to commune with their own-and sometimes sit-in for a song or two-on their nights off. The pair will be at Bemelmans with their evening of swinging standards Sunday nights, September 7-28; November 2-December 28.

THE MEETING* to Return to Joe's Pub with Tributes to Amy Winehouse, Julie Andrews & More

The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre, the acclaimed comedy/variety show, will return to JOE'S PUB at The Public Theater in September 2014 for the launch of its landmark 6th season. The Meeting* has been called "delicious and delightfully droll" by The New York Post, and "hilarious and sardonic" by The Village Voice. A recent story for Slate.com called the evening "so deliciously icy that it left me shivering with fear and delight." The Fall 2014 season feature tributes to the beloved soul diva Amy Winehouse (September 14), Broadway and Hollywood star Julie Andrews (October 19), Warhol Superstar Candy Darling (November 16) and the 6th annual Holiday Spectacular (December 7). All performances are Sundays at 9:30 PM. Tracy Stark serves as the show's Music Director. Special guests will be announced shortly.

Kitchen Cafe Dallas to Welcome JIM CARUSO'S CAST PARTY, 9/11-12

Kitchen Cafe Dallas will present the return of Jim Caruso's Cast Party on Thursday and Friday, September 11 & 12 from 7:30 - 10:30pm. Called an "extreme open mic" by ABC-TV, Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular event that has been bringing Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in NYC every Monday for the past eleven years. The hilarious impromptu evening has also been celebrating local talent in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Austin, and on the high seas. Now, for the second time, Caruso and Stritch are bringing the fun to Dallas, their old stomping grounds! Their May booking was a smashing success, packing a record number of audience members into Kitchen Cafe Dallas.

Gabrielle Stravelli Extends Metropolitan Room Engagement Through 8/13

GABRIELLE STRAVELLI, the celebrated pop/jazz vocalist, has extended her exclusive engagement at The Metropolitan Room through August. After sold out shows and amazing reviews - including a rave in The New York Times - a special encore performance has been added on Wednesday, August 13, in addition to remaining shows on Tuesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 31 at 7:00 PM. Stravelli, called an 'outstanding singer' by The Wall Street Journal, is known from her tours with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, appearances at the 92nd Street Y and her long-running Soho jazz brunch. Her new show, directed by nightlife legend Marilyn Maye, includes selections from her debut CD Waiting in Vain previews tracks for her upcoming sophomore release. The evening features classic standards like 'While We're Young' and 'Goody Goody,' pop hits such as 'Young Folks' (Peter, Bjorn and John) and 'Have You Ever Seen the Rain' (John Fogerty), in addition to distinctive original compositions. She is joined by Joshua Richman on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass and Eric Halvorson on drums.

CABARET LIFE NYC: Mid-Year Cabaret Review--Best (and Favorite) 20 Shows and Performances (So Far) for 2014

Since I attended more than 50 shows over the past eight months (a few more than once)--the large majority of which were reviewed on these web pages—I felt I had more than enough cabaret show inventory to present my second-annual “Mid-Year Cabaret Review” citing the “20 Best Cabaret Shows and Performances” for the first half of 2014. Since the eligibility period for 2014 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Award consideration begins with shows staged since last November (late October if it was the first of a run), I've included a few of those late 2013 shows in this group. And with the announcement of the BWW Award nominees just four months away, I've offered some projections on the Award categories for which these shows very well might receive consideration.
