AstonRep Theatre Company is pleased to continue its 2014-15 season with Christopher Hampton's drama LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES, based on the classic French novel by Choderlos de Laclos, directed by Charlie Marie McGrath, playing May 21 - June 21, 2015 at The Raven Theatre (West Stage), 6157 N. Clark St. in Chicago.

The world premiere production of Scarlet Sisters Everleigh, now playing at the Berger Park Coach House through November 29, explores the scandalous lives of the Everleigh Sisters, the famous madams from the legendary southside Chicago brothel, the Everleigh Club. Through the use of four-part harmony, Gary Gimmestad, composer and arranger, has incorporated music from the time period to help tell the story of Chicago's Levee District.

On the surface, GHOST, the ultra-romantic 1990 Oscar-nominated box office hit, seems every bit the perfect motion picture to be repurposed into a flashy stage musical. Unfortunately, the musical that eventually emerged (now playing at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts through August 10) is a chaotic, schizophrenic melange of random adult contemporary pop rock songs intermixed with an amped-up mystical mystery where the swoon-worthy aspects of the original gets diluted in favor of dazzling effects and abstract dance numbers. Why water down the romance?

GHOST - THE MUSICAL features Steven Grant Douglas as Sam Wheat, Katie Postotnik as Molly Jensen, Carla R. Stewart as Oda Mae Brown and Robby Haltiwanger as Carl Bruner. Featured ensemble are Fernando Contreras, Brandon Curry, Evette Marie White, Lydia Warr, Hana Freeman and Shannan E. Johnson. If you were going to see GHOST THE MUSICAL and looking for references to the original movie with Patrick Swayze (Sam) and Demi Moore (Molly), you would have seen a lot of them. Yes, the popular song, 'Unchained Melody' was included. Yes, Molly does sculpting and Sam works on Wall Street. The live production actually follows the movie closely since Bruce Rubin wrote both the screenplay and play script. But, if you were going solely to relive your memories of the original, then you would have been disappointed. GHOST THE MUSICAL is a wonderful production by itself and is worthy of its own iconic references.
