Opera Theatre of the Rockies Announces 2014 Summer Season - THE KING AND I and More!

Opera Theatre of the Rockies is excited to announce its 2014 Summer Season as it continues its 16th Season – “A Season of Exotic Splendor.” Summer events center around the 2014 Vocal Arts Festival and Young Artists Intensive Training Program. Performances include the always popular Let's Make a Scene production on July 18 at 3:00 p.m., and the festival's grand finale performances of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I on July 25, 26 & 27. Two events benefiting Opera Theatre of the Rockies - Songs for a Summer Evening and “Opera Goofo -- an Evening of Fun and Laughter” -- round out the summer's performances.

Kelli O'Hara Confirms She's in Talks for 2015 Broadway Revival of THE KING AND I

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, one of Rodgers & Hammerstein's most beloved musicals, The King and I, will be brought back to the stage by Lincoln Center Theater in Spring 2015. On the red carpet for tonight's 2014 Tony Awards, long-rumored lead Kelli O'Hara confirmed she's currently in talks to reteam with THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY director, Bartlett Sher, on the revival.

BWW Review: The KING AND I is too large for the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre

Roger and Hammerstein's The King and I opens on Saturday June 7 at the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre in Kansas City. Karen Paisley directs the musical, and stars as Anna Leonowens. Tim Braselton provides musical direction and the choreography's designed by Matthew King. The King and I is based on the 1944 novel Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon, which is derived from the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, who was governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the 1860s.

Official: Bartlett Sher to Direct Broadway Revival of THE KING AND I; Arrives Spring 2015!

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, one of Rodgers & Hammerstein's most beloved musicals, The King and I, will be brought back to the stage by Lincoln Center Theater in Spring 2015. BroadwayWorld has just confirmed that Tony winner Bartlett will direct the revival. Casting has not yet been announced, though Rodgers and Hammerstein veteran Kelli O'Hara, who just concluded a run in Sher's The Bridges of Madison County, has long been rumored to lead the revival.

Just last night, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II were celebrated in Lyrics & Lyricists' Getting to Know You at the 92nd Street Y. At the special event head of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization Ted Chapin, who was also acting as Guest artistic director and host, shared that one of the duo's most beloved musicals, The King and I, will be brought back to the stage by Lincoln Center Theatre in Spring 2015. Today in 1951, The King and I opened at the St. James Theatre, where it ran for 1246 performances. The King and I is the fifth musical by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The work is based on the 1944 novel Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon and derives from the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, who became governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860s. The story deals with the experiences of the British schoolteacher, who is hired as part of the King's drive to modernize his country. The relationship between the King and Anna is marked by conflict through much of the play, as well as by a love that neither is able to express.

Leading Australian theatre producer John Frost and Opera Australia Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini today announced that Australian music legend and theatre icon, Marty Rhone, will join the upcoming multimillion dollar production of The King and I in the featured role of The Kralahome.
