Steppenwolf Theatre Company celebrates 40 years as America's longest running, most distinguished ensemble theater with a remarkable lineup of plays in the 2015/16 Subscription Season, all by Pulitzer Prize-winning writers. Kicking off the landmark season is John Steinbeck's East of Eden, a world premiere adaptation by Frank Galati. Steppenwolf's deep connection with the Pulitzer Prize-winning author can be traced back to the company's 1988 production of The Grapes of Wrath, which Galati adapted and directed. The production transferred to Broadway, California and London and received two Tony Awards-Best Play and Best Director-garnering Steppenwolf international acclaim.

Wonderland, Alice's Rock & Roll Adventure, a new family musical created by top Chicago director Rachel Rockwell and music director Michael Mahler, is Chicago Children's Theatre's big 10th anniversary season finale. I thought of that during the current performance of the opera at the met, with Russian soprano Albina Shagimuratova as the eponymous heroine and Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja as her beloved Edgardo. Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical, a new musical comedy lovingly (and loosely) inspired by the classic TV series, will get the Broadway treatment when it has its eagerly awaited World Premiere this fall at Dallas Theater Center. The musical, which had a much-buzzed-about industry reading in September, features a score by multi-Award winning artists Brandy Clark (a 2015 Grammy Award nominee for Best New Artist) and Grammy Award-winner Shane McAnally, two of country music's hottest new singer/songwriters. With a book by Robert Horn, direction by Gary Griffin and choreography by Denis Jones and musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Tony and Grammy Award-winner Stephen Oremus, Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical begins performances at Dallas Center Theatre on September 2, 2015, where it runs through October 11, 2015.
