A founding resident company of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia (COP) invites internationally acclaimed Australian conductor Kynan Johns to open the second concert of COP's 16/17 season featuring Ricardo Morales on Clarinet. Showcasing the Chamber Orchestra's hallmark grace and intimacy with dance-inspired classics, the concert opens with the whimsical Dance of the Blessed Spirits from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice. Johns', having conducted Opera productions at the Covent Gardens and La Scala, brings a singular vision and style to Gluck's memorable work.

Orange County, Calif.—Nov. 5, 2015—The young and highly talented Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings (PSSS) and Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble (PSYWE) are preparing to launch their first concerts of the 2015-16 season. First, the talented brass, woodwind and percussion musicians of PSYWE breeze onto the stage to perform a selection of European classics from the wind ensemble canon on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m., in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The program, “Europa,” features Rimsky-Korsakov's “Procession of the Nobles,” Grainger's “Lincolnshire Posy” and Walton's “Crown Imperial.” Then, PSSS celebrates its 25th anniversary and pays tribute to its founder, Lonie Bosserman, whose dream it was to create a middle-school string ensemble, by performing dream-like music for “Fantasize This!,” taking place Sunday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m., at Friends Church in Yorba Linda.

The leaves are changing color, the pumpkin patches are open, apples are ripening, and the days are growing shorter.  The Canton Symphony Orchestra presents a concert with a mystical theme perfect for the season of jack-o-lanterns and goblins.  Symphony Noir, featuring pianist Spencer Myer, tenor Timothy Culver and the Canton Symphony Men's Chorus, is November 1 at 7:30pm at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall.  Music Director Gerhardt Zimmermann will conduct.

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (RIPYO) presents their final concert of the season, titled “A Day at the Movies,” Sunday May 17 at 3pm at Roberts Auditorium, Rhode Island College. The concert features the top-level Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director Alexey Shabalin, Repertory Orchestra under the direction of Vincent Mattera, String Orchestra under the direction of Irina Naryshkova, and the Intermediate String Ensemble and String Ensemble under the direction of Erin Quinton Erban. Tickets are $11 adult, $6 student and senior citizen, and are available through the Rhode Island College box office http://www.ric.edu/pfa/orderinfo.php or 401.456-8144.

Pacific Symphony's Spring Concert Set for 3/3

The highly-respected students of Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble (PSYWE) have the rare first-time experience of performing with the magnificent 4,322 pipes of the William J. Gillespie Concert Organ in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall for their "Spring Concert." Composed for wind ensemble, soprano soloist and organ, Frank Ticheli's "Angels in the Architecture" becomes the centerpiece of the program and features 11-year-old vocalist Max Uehara and organist Kristen Lawrence. Inspired by the Sydney Opera House where it premiered, the piece explores the forces of the divine and evil on humanity. Led by Music Director Joshua Roach, PSYWE's second concert of the season takes place Sunday, March 3, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 each, general admission. Andrew Lloyd Webber will receive a BASCA Fellowship at this year's Ivor Novello Awards tonight 17 May. The BASCA Fellowship is the highest accolade which a composer can receive, bestowed by composers in the UK. It recognises unique creative talent in music writing together with iconic achievement for and on behalf of composers. BASCA Fellows are exceptional artists and ambassadors for the song-writing and composing profession and BASCA's role within it.
