Maestro LUKE FRAZIER and THE AMERICAN POPS ORCHESTRA — Washington, DC's innovative hometown orchestra — have announced their all-star 2017-2018 season. The diverse line-up will include a tribute to legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin, a special evening combining yoga with the APO's favorite standards, a new family show based on the classic tale Around the World in 80 Days, and a program celebrating the wit of iconic songwriter Cole Porter. Unless otherwise noted, all shows are at the Orchestra's new home, Arena Stage at The Mead Center for American Theater (1101 Sixth Street SW). Maestro LUKE FRAZIER and THE AMERICAN POPS ORCHESTRA - Washington, DC's innovative hometown orchestra - will launch their all-star third season with a special benefit event featuring a rare DC-area appearance of vocal legend Marilyn Maye.

Ella Fitzgerald is turning 100 and to celebrate her life and legacy, the DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP) and The American Pops Orchestra (APO) are partnering once again. The two organizations will bring some of Fitzgerald's greatest hits to the DC community with free outdoor performances in two iconic DC parks.

On Friday, April 7 at 8:00 PM, Maestro Luke Frazier and the American Pops Orchestra will celebrate popular music of the 1980's with a concert entitled 'You Spin Me 'Round: An 80's Dance Party' at George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC. To get DC audiences ready for the party, vocalist Patrice Covington shared some of her favorite 80's songs with BWW.

Greg Louganis - the diving legend who first swept the Olympics in 1984 and 1988 - will serve as celebrity host when Maestro LUKE FRAZIER and THE AMERICAN POPS ORCHESTRA - Washington, DC's innovative hometown orchestra - will conclude their all-star 2016-2017 season with You Spin Me 'Round: An 80's Dance Party.

Put on your dancing shoes and travel back in time to the era of neon, teased hair, and shoulder pads as the American Pops interpret the popular music of the 1980's. This "rad" original program combines DJ mixing, live orchestra, dancers, and hot vocalists to bring back favorite music of the 1980's in a whole new way. 80's inspired attire is encouraged.
