Continuing its commitment to bringing free Shakespeare to the community and strengthening audience engagement with the arts, The Public Theater will mount its MOBILE SHAKESPEARE UNIT again this October with a free three-week tour to the five boroughs of Shakespeare's THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah. The free Mobile Unit tour (October 9-29) will bring free Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts by visiting correctional facilities, homeless shelters, social service organizations, and other community venues, including stops at our Public Works community partner venues: Brownsville Recreation Center in Brooklyn and DreamYard Project in the Bronx. Following the Mobile tour, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS will have a sit-down run at The Public Theater from Sunday, November 1 to Sunday, November 22, with an official press opening on Thursday, November 5.
This weekend, director Lear deBessonet and composer Todd Almond's adaptaion of Homer's The Odyssey marks the third year the Public Theater's Public Works hits Central Park's Delacorte Theater with a brand new musical spectacular based on a classic piece of literature, mixing the talents of a handful of Equity actors with performing arts groups and community organizations from throughout New York's five boroughs. THE ODYSSEY will once again feature over 200 actors and community members alongside five equity actors, including this year Brandon Victor Dixon as Odysseus and Karen Olivo as Penelope.
Broadway actors Lucas Caleb Rooney, fresh off of a run in Classic Stage Company's production of Doctor Faustus, and Bryce Pinkham, after a run of The Heidi Chronicles and before returning to his Tony-nominated role in the Tony award-winning musical A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, have recently returned from Madagascar, where they worked to secure a permanent home for their non-profit organization, Zara Aina. Also joining them in Madagascar was puppeteer, Annie Worden.

The so-called extracurricular activities, which give actors a rich environment in which to broaden creatively and even experiment, include free industry panels and talks, and low-cost workshops called Today Specials. Most of these add-ons are led by notable theatre artists, are either free or low-cost, and are open to the public.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director Jeremy Blocker have announced that due to rave reviews and strong ticket sales, Love and Information, written by Caryl Churchill and directed by James Macdonald, will extend for two weeks through Sunday, April 6 at the Minetta Lane Theatre, 18 Minetta Lane. Love and Information had been scheduled to run through Sunday, March 23, 2014. Love and Information is produced in association with London's Royal Court Theatre.
