Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer, and recording artist Leslie Uggams, along with actors LeVar Burton, Ben Vereen, and Louis Gossett, Jr., will make several appearances today, February 4 and tomorrow, February 5 in conjunction with the February 5 PBS airing of a Pioneers of Television segment which examines three early miniseries including the legendary ROOTS.

Sirius XM Radio announced today that original cast members from ROOTS, the groundbreaking television mini-series, will participate in an upcoming installment of SiriusXM's 'Town Hall' series. LeVar Burton , Leslie Uggams, and Louis Gossett, Jr. will sit down for a Q&A session with a select group of SiriusXM listeners at the SiriusXM studios in New York City.

As four of the stars of ROOTS, based on Alex Haley's novel 'ROOTS: The Saga of an American Family,' Uggams, Burton, Vereen and Gossett, Jr. will discuss their involvement in this ground-breaking television series and the impact it still has 36 years later.

Actors Richard Gere and Louis Gossett, Jr. will be special guests at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' screening of AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN in celebration of Paramount Pictures' 100th anniversary, on Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m. at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International in New York City.

An Officer and a Gentleman, a musical based on the original screenplay by Douglas Day Stewart, is planned to have its World Premiere in Australian in 2011.

Broadway star Louis Gossett Jr. announced today that he is battling prostate cancer. Gossett Jr. said he was able to catch the cancer in its early stages and is receiving treatment. He is also using this opportunity to encourage other African-Americans to be examined early as to avoid any future complications.

According to Nielsen, the premiere of 'A Raisin in the Sun' which aired 8-11PM on ABC-TV on Monday, February 25 succeeded in drawing-in viewers and adults 18-49, beating NBC in their 6-week winning streak, with 12.7 million viewers.
