THE BLACK BOX in downtown Franklin presents critically acclaimed jazz vocalist April Hall on Friday, April 24 at 8 p.m. The concert, rescheduled from February due to a Valentine's Day snowstorm, is featured as part of BLACK BOX Jazz, one of four dynamic music series launched this year at the new theater, music and event venue.

59E59 Theaters will welcome Peter and Will Anderson with THE JOY OF SAX, featuring Pat Bianchi on the Hammond B-3 Organ. Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts ('The Wallis') presents the Long Wharf Theatre and Shakespeare & Company Production of Satchmo at the Waldorf by Terry Teachout, directed by Long Wharf Theatre Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein and starring Obie winner John Douglas Thompson in a tour de force multiple-character solo performance, arriving in Los Angeles following hit sold-out runs at the Long Wharf Theatre, Shakespeare & Company and Off-Broadway. The engagement plays May 26 through June 7, 2015, in the Lovelace Studio Theater; press opening is May 27.

On his brilliantly realized new album 'Celebrating the Music and Lyrics of Dave & Iola Brubeck,' drummer Dan Brubeck introduces his parents' remarkable and surprisingly little-known songbook. The second youngest of Dave and Iola Brubeck's six children, Dan has an extensive history of performing and recording alongside his famous pianist father Dave Brubeck and had long wanted to explore some of the songs and textual settings that his parents collaborated on over the years. The 2-CD set, which happens to be Dan's recording debut as a leader, will be released by Blue Forest Records on April 28.

Monday night found me back at Zeb's on the West Side for another of Will Friedwald's iconoclastic 'Clip Joints'--this one in honor of the Billie Holiday Centennial. During a year that is already producing a glut of celebratory events (given that it's also the Frank Sinatra Centennial year), leave it to the intriguing and obsessive writer/journalist/producer to come up with something different. Instead of a roster of vocalists live or on film, performing material we now think of reflexively as belonging to Lady Day, we were offered the singular piano interpretations of Lara Downes, recollections by alto saxophonist Jerry Dodgion (who at age 22 played with Holiday), and eclectic clips from television and film appearances of the artist herself.

Broadway composer Charles Strouse, who has written scores for over 30 stage musicals, including 14 for Broadway, and is a three-time Tony Award winner, a two-time Emmy Award winner, and whose cast albums have earned him two Grammy Awards will visit the school and lead a 'Talk-Back' with students. The Teaneck Community Charter school will present a production of the recently created 'Bye Bye Birdie Young Performers Edition.' The Talk-Back event will feature the student cast and crew of the show and will lead into the Opening Night performance at 8pm.

The Second City is proud to announce that Ithamar Has Nothing to Say, starring Second City alumni Ithamar Enriquez in a silent one-man sketch show, is coming to Chicago after a sold-out run at Second City Hollywood. The Charlie Chaplinesque production is directed by Frank Caeti and is currently being developed into a web series produced by Maker Studios, Principato-Young Entertainment and Key and Peele.
