Ben Vereen to Bring Solo Show to Schimmel Center This Month

The legendary Ben Vereen will bring his one-of-a-kind show business electricity to the Schimmel Center at Pace University (3 Spruce Street in downtown Manhattan) for one night only in STEPPIN' OUT WITH BEN VEREEN on Saturday, May 30 at 7:30pm.

The Nash Sets Expanded Jazz Summer Workshops

Developing new jazz musicians and building on the skills of existing artists, The Nash holds annual jazz workshops each summer. From New Orleans Trad Jazz and Latin Workshops to developing vocals and bass, the roster has expanded, with workshops running through August. Instructors at The Nash are comprised of the leading jazz artists in the Valley, many from Arizona State University and the Maricopa Community Colleges. All ages and skill levels are welcome. John Douglas Thompson to be Honored at Theatre for a New Audience's Spring Gala

Acclaimed classical actor John Douglas Thompson will receive the Samuel H. Scripps Award for Extraordinary Commitment to Promoting the Power of Language In Classical and Contemporary Theatre at Theatre for a New Audience's Spring Gala Celebrating Shakespeare's Birthday. The celebration, Monday, May 11, is at Capitale, 130 Bowery on the Lower East Side.

BWW Preview: Quality Hill Playhouse in Kansas City Announces the 2015-2016 Season

Quality Hill Playhouse in Kansas City, Missouri announced their 2015-2016 season. Century of the Songbook explores 100 years of music. Producing Artistic Director J. Kent Barnhart has programmed four original cabaret revues and one Broadway revue, each highlighting songs of the musical tradition called the Great American Songbook. The Playhouse season focuses on contributions to the Songbook by first Americans, big band leaders, women songwriters, Broadway musicals, and folk singer-songwriters.

Official Soundtrack for HBO's BESSIE to Be Released This June

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, is proud to announce the digital release of Bessie (Music from the HBO Film) on Tuesday, May 12. The official soundtrack for the upcoming HBO film will also be released on CD on Tuesday, June 2.

Broadway Composer Charles Strouse Leads Talk-Back with Students at Teaneck Community Charter School Today

Broadway composer Charles Strouse, who has written scores for over 30 stage musicals, including 14 for Broadway, and is a three-time Tony Award winner, a two-time Emmy Award winner, and whose cast albums have earned him two Grammy Awards will visit the school and lead a 'Talk-Back' with students. The Teaneck Community Charter school will present a production of the recently created 'Bye Bye Birdie Young Performers Edition.' The Talk-Back event will feature the student cast and crew of the show and will lead into the Opening Night performance at 8pm.

DEE DEE'S FEATHERS Set for Release This Summer

Dee Dee's Feathers, a journey through the history of New Orleans as told through song and the collaboration of Dee Dee Bridgewater, Irvin Mayfield & The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO), is set for release August 11th, 2015, via OKeh/Sony Music/DDB Records. Recorded at New Orleans' Esplanade Studios, a studio in a reconverted historical church in the heart of the city that was badly damaged by Hurricane Katrina, the release of Dee Dee's Feathers will be accompanied by tour dates worldwide including stops at The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, the Barbican in London and New York City's famed Apollo Theatre on Halloween.

Paul Moravec & Terry Teachout to Create New Work Honoring John V. Sinclair's 25th Anniversary with Bach Festival Society of Winter Park

Bach Festival Society of Winter Park is pleased to announce the commissioning of a new work in celebration of conductor and artistic director John V. Sinclair's 25th anniversary with the Society. The piece, titled Music, Awake!, with music by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec and words by distinguished author Terry Teachout, celebrates the universal power of music. It will be premiered during concerts with the Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra on April 16 and 17, 2016. Terry Teachout and Paul Moravec are experienced collaborators, having premiered three operas in recent years for companies such as The Santa Fe Opera and Philadelphia's Center City Opera Theater.
