While the Earth didn't exactly move during the national tour stop of BEAUTIFUL at the Hanover Theater in Worcester this week, this more successful than most biographical jukebox musical did set off an occasional temblor. No surprise, those moments came when the show's legendary subject, Carole King, was channeled by her doppelganger Kennedy Caughell alone at the piano.
In collaboration with PBS' 'Great Performances' series, the Recording Academy presents 'GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends®,' the fourth annual all-star concert offering a primetime spotlight for the Academy's 2019 Special Merit Awards recipients. Recorded in May at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre, the event premieres nationwide Friday, Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings),pbs.org/gperf and the PBS Video app.
The Recording Academy will honor its 2019 Special Merit Awards recipients with 'GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends®,' an awards ceremony and live tribute concert on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are Black Sabbath, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Billy Eckstine, Donny Hathaway, Julio Iglesias, Sam & Dave, and Dionne Warwick. Lou Adler, Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson, and Johnny Mandel are Trustees Award honorees; and Saul Walker is the Technical GRAMMY® Award recipient. Also being honored is Jeffery Redding, this year's recipient of the Music Educator Award presented by the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum®. Led by GRAMMY®-nominated industry icon Greg Phillinganes as musical director, the tribute concert will feature rare performances by honorees and never-seen renditions by those they've inspired. Currently scheduled to appear are Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Clinton; GRAMMY winner Bootsy Collins, who will salute Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic; five-time GRAMMY winner Lalah Hathaway and Kenya Hathaway, who will pay tribute to their father Donny; past Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Johnny Mathis, who will honor Warwick; Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Sam Moore;two-time GRAMMY winner Gregory Porter, who will pay tribute to Eckstine; Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Simpson; past GRAMMY nominee Snoop Dogg, who will salute Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic; and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Warwick. Presenters for the evening will include GRAMMY winners Cheech & Chong. Additional performers and presenters will be announced shortly. The Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) is pleased to announce Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and former lead singer of The Wallflowers, Jakob Dylan, will make a special appearance for the film Echo in The Canyon at BIFF's Closing Night on Sunday, March 3 at the Boulder Theater. This special screening of Echo In The Canyon, directed by music-industry veteran Andrew Slater and starring Jakob Dylan, features the sounds of LA's famous Laurel Canyon music scene in the '60s—including music from The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, The Mamas & The Papas and more.

GRAMMY®-winning comedy duo Cheech & Chong will be the subject of a new exhibit opening at the GRAMMY Museum® on 4/20. Titled Cheech & Chong: Still Rollin'—Celebrating 40 Years Of Up In Smoke, the exhibit is curated in collaboration with GRAMMY-winning producer Lou Adler, who uncovered the legendary duo, produced many of their albums, and directed the film.

Chilina Kennedy, who stars as Carole King in the Broadway hit Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York City, joined with Christie's to announce the sale of Carole King's piano which will take place on April 20, 2018 11am at The Exceptional Sale. King, one of the most prolific women singer/songwriters of our time, used this 1924 model "M' Steinway piano to compose numerous hits, including "Sweet Seasons" and Been to Canaan" and it is pictured on the cover of two of her best-selling 1970's albums, "Music" and "Sweet Seasons". The piano is estimated at $40,000 and it will be on view to the public from April 12-20 at Christie's Rockefeller Galleries.
