BWW Review: AN AUTUMN AFTERNOON WITH RAEHANN BRYCE-DAVIS at Home Computer Screens

Bryce Davis and Cilliers opened their recital program with Richard Strauss' and John Henry Mackay's uplifting 'Heimliche Aufforderung' ('The Secret Invitation'). This joyous, celebratory composition was the composer's gift to his bride on their wedding day. Bryce-Davis sang it with exquisite vocal colors. Next was Robert Schumann 'Die Lotosblume' ('The Lotus Flower') in which the poet Heinrich Heine described the beauty of the love between the flower and the moon. Bryce-Davis showed the lyric tones of her voice as she told of this delicate love.

Pittance Chamber Music Announces 2022 Season

Pittance Chamber Music 2022 Season, announced today by Artistic Director Lisa Sutton, celebrates the return of audiences to live concerts since the global pandemic shuttered live performances more than a year and a half ago. Pittance Chamber Music extends a warm welcome back to audiences, as they return to live concerts this January in a spectacular new venue, First United Methodist Church in Pasadena. Pittance Chamber Music's SEASON VIII offers a series of three programs, featuring the extraordinary artists from the LA Opera Orchestra and Chorus. 

ONLINE VIRTUAL OPERA TOUR Begins November 2 on Home Computer Screens

This evening our online show is Los Angeles Opera’s La Traviata from 2006 with: Renée Fleming, Rolando Villazón, Renato Bruson, Suzanna Guzmán, Anna Akhimova, Daniel Montenegro, Philip Kraus, James Creswell, Sal Malaki, and Mark Kelley. James Conlon conducts the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. The stage director is Marta Domingo. Brian Large directs it for TV.

A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER Begins Rehearsals at The Gateway

A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder is the knock-'em-dead, uproarious hit and the most nominated show of the 2014 season. With ten Tony nominations and four wins, including Best Musical, Book, Direction, and Costumes; it also earned seven Drama Desk Awards (including Best Musical), four Outer Critics Circle Awards (including Best Musical), and one Drama League Award (Best Musical).

BWW Review: LOS ANGELES OPERA'S TANNHÄUSER at Home Computer Screens

On October  24, 2021, Los Angeles Opera presented Wagner’s Tannhäuser live online for patrons who cannot get to the theater at this time. Director Louise Muller revived the Ian Judge production of the opera’s Dresden version. A second live streamed performance will be available from LA Opera on October 27. 

Verdi Chorus Presents RITORNA VINCITORI! This November

Led by Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum, the Verdi Chorus is the only choral group in Southern California that focuses primarily on the dramatic and diverse music for opera chorus.

American Lyric Theater Announces Six Artists Selected for Two-Year Fellowships in The Composer Librettist Development Program

American Lyric Theater today announces that three composers and three librettists have been selected from over 200 applicants to join the Composer Librettist Development Program (CLDP) as Resident Artists this season. The artists selected for this prestigious fellowship are composers Jasmine Arielle Barnes, Johanny Navarro, and Alex Weiser; and librettists Joshua Banbury, Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, and Marcus Yi.

Priti Gandhi Named Artistic Director of Portland Opera

Portland Opera has announced that Priti Gandhi has joined the company as artistic director. Ms. Gandhi will work with Sue Dixon, and artistic advisors Karen Slack and Damien Geter, to guide the company as an artistic and strategic leader.
