Delta David Gier, Oliver Hagen to Replace Gil Rose at American Composers Orchestra's (JCOI) Readings

Conductors Delta David Gier and Oliver Hagen will replace Gil Rose for American Composers Orchestra's Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute (JCOI) Readings on Monday, June 3 at 10am (working rehearsal) and Tuesday, June 4 at 7:30pm(run-through) at Columbia University's Miller Theatre (2960 Broadway). Rose has withdrawn with regrets, due to a family emergency. Both events are free and open to the public, but reservations are suggested. ACO is one of three orchestras participating this year in JCOI Readings - the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (April 23 & 24) and La Jolla Symphony & Chorus (September 19 & 20) are also workshopping, rehearsing, and giving public readings of new works for symphony orchestra by jazz composers.
NY PHIL BIENNIAL to Run Through June 7 at Lincoln Center Campus

From May 28 to June 7, 2014, the New York Philharmonic will present the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL, a kaleidoscopic exploration of today's music by a wide range of contemporary and modern composers that will showcase an array of curatorial voices through concerts presented with partners in venues both on and off the Lincoln Center campus.

The competition continues as the 10 remaining celebrities celebrate "The Best Year of Their Life" through dance, MONDAY, APRIL 8 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). Each couple will dance to a song of the celebrities' choosing that represents a memorable time or experience in their life. In addition, each celebrity is challenged to perform a brief solo during their performance.
Lorin Maazel Returns to the Met to Conduct Verdi's Don Carlo

Renowned conductor Lorin Maazel will make a rare appearance at the Metropolitan Opera-conducting his first Verdi opera with the company-when he leads a revival of Don Carlo, opening February 22. Ramon Vargas sings his first Met performances of the title role, opposite Barbara Frittoli, also in her house role debut, as the tragic Elisabeth de Valois. Reprising their roles from previous Met seasons are Anna Smirnova as the mysterious Princess Eboli; Dmitri Hvorostovsky as the revolutionary Rodrigo, Count of Posa; Ferruccio Furlanetto as the tormented King Philip II; and Eric Halfvarson as the Grand Inquisitor. This season's performances are the first revival of Nicholas Hytner's production, which opened to critical acclaim in the Met's 2010-11 season.
Violinist Jennifer Koh to Perform with New York Philharmonic, 1/24-26

Violinist and new music advocate Jennifer Koh will make her subscription series debut with the New York Philharmonic in January performing Chain 2: Dialogue for Violin and Orchestra by Polish conductor Witold Lutoslawski. She will perform the piece at three concerts: Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 25 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 26 at 8:00 p.m. The concerts will be held in Avery Fisher Hall and will be conducted by the orchestra's former music director, Lorin Maazel. The concerts open with Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet, Overture-Fantasy and conclude with Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5.
