Why do these women box? What are they boxing for? What does boxing give them? And what do they stand to lose? All of these questions helped to shape and hone the play. Fighting for representation and having autonomy over their own bodies were grave challenges that our Victorian lady boxers faced. They were also the same struggles faced by women to have female boxing legitimised, respected and funded as a sport (with the battle still raging on).

Theatre503's 2018 Playwriting Award Finalists Announced

Five extraordinary new voices make up the finalists of Theatre503's 2018 International Playwriting Award. Mathilde Dratwa, Gillian Greer, Joel MacCormack, Philana Imade Omorotionmwan and Danusia Samal have been chosen from 2,055 scripts sent in from 49 countries.

Composer Gordy Haab Wins ASCAP Composers' Choice Award for 'Star Wars: Battlefront II'

Multi-award-winning composer Gordy Haab took home one of the top honors at the 33rd annual ASCAP Screen Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. Haab, a AAA game, tv and film composer, accepted the Composers' Choice award for 2017 Video Game Score of the Year for his score for EA Dice's 'Star Wars: Battlefront II'.

Urielle Klein-Mekongo's YVETTE Comes to the Southbank Centre's WOW Festival

Based on her own true story, Urielle Klein-Mekongo's debut show delves into the trials of a young Black girl growing up, from Hello Kitty knickers to 'lightys' to the terrible secret of her stolen childhood. Using original music, spoken word and a loop station, this one woman show presents a story of teenage angst and survival. Following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017, the show is set to open at the Southbank Centre's WOW Festival before touring nationally and returning to London be presented at five leading venues across the city in an innovative new London touring model.

155 THRU THE ROOF to Play TNC, 4/3-20

'155 Thru the Roof,' a fanciful comedy with music, will be presented by Theater for the New City, April 3 to 20. Written by award-winning playwright Toby Armour, directed by George Ferencz with music by Peter Dizozza, the play follows the epic adventures of Lily Field, director of Theater for the New Syzygy, as she moves through the Fourth Dimension beyond Earth and the Lower East Side.

Gladys Knight Performs with Pacific Symphony, Now thru 4/20

Eight-time Grammy winner and film/television sensation Gladys Knight and her famous soulful voice perform for the first time with Pacific Symphony during the orchestra's next Pops concert. For this concert, she'll be singing favorites such as 'Midnight Train to Georgia,' 'Every Beat of My Heart,' her James Bond single 'License to Kill' and 'I Heard it Through the Grapevine,' all backed by the lush sounds of the full symphony orchestra.

Jazz Great Dave Brubeck Dies at 92

Jazz musician great Dave Brubeck died this morning, Wednesday, December 5 at Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut. His longtime manager, producer and conductor Russell Gloyd revealded the news to the Chicago Tribune.

Renee Flemming Records 'Still Dream' for RISE OF THE GUARDIANS Soundtrack

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. today announced that acclaimed soprano Renee Fleming has performed the original song 'Still Dream' on the soundtrack for the upcoming Rise of the Guardians, which also features a score by Four-Time Academy Award nominated and Grammy Award winning composer Alexandre Desplat. Varese Sarabande will release the soundtrack on November 13, preceding the film's nationwide release on November 21.

Bernstein's 'Cantata' Premieres March 31 with Collegiate Chorale at Lincoln Center

The Collegiate Chorale, led by Music Director Robert Bass, presents the New York premiere of Leonard Bernstein's and Alan Jay Lerner's A White House Cantata on March 31 at 8PM at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater. The performance will be conducted by The Collegiate Chorale's Music Director Robert Bass, with the Orchestra of St. Luke's.
