SNORE AND OTHER SORTS OF BREATHING Continues Page 73 Readings Tonight, 5/21

Off-Broadway's Page 73 Productions presents a series of readings by their 2012 P73 Playwriting fellow Max Posner. Tonight, Monday, May 21 at 7:30pm and Tuesday, May 22 at 4pm at the Roundabout Rehearsal studio (32 E. 31st Street, 4th Fl) will be Mr. Posner's SNORE AND OTHER SORTS OF BREATHING, directed by Trip Cullman. Steppenwolf's WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? to Preview on Broadway Sept. 27, 2012; Understudy EPAs Set for Jun. 5

According to an Equity Audition notice, the Steppenwolf's production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf will begin previews on Broadway on September 27, 2012 in anticipation of its previously announced October 13, 2012 opening at a Shubert Theatre to be announced. Pam Mackinnon will continue to helm the project. Jerry Frankel, Jeffrey Richards Susan Q. Gallin and Mary Lu Roffe will produce.

Playwrights Horizons' RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN Begins Previews May 18

Previews begin this Friday, May 18 for the Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) World Premiere of RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN, a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Obie Award winner Gina Gionfriddo (Becky Shaw). Directed by Peter DuBois (Becky Shaw, Sons of the Prophet, Measure for Pleasure, Jack Goes Boating, Artistic Director of Huntington Theatre Company), the play is the final production of the theater company's 2011/2012 Season. Opening Night is set for Tuesday, June 12 at 7PM and the limited engagement will play through Sunday, June 24 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

Amy Brenneman Set to Lead RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN at Playwrights Horizons

Playwrights Horizons has just announced complete casting for the World Premiere of RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN, a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Obie Award winner Gina Gionfriddo (Becky Shaw). Directed by Peter DuBois (Becky Shaw, Sons of the Prophet, Measure for Pleasure, Jack Goes Boating, Artistic Director of Huntington Theatre Company), the production will begin previews Friday, May 18 at 8PM with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, June 12 at 7PM. SUMMERWORKS 2012 -- the annual season of new plays presented the Obie Award-winning theater company Clubbed Thumb -- is set for its 17th season May 26 to June 30 at the HERE Arts Center (145 Sixth Ave. at Dominick Street) in Manhattan, it has been announced by Maria Striar, Clubbed Thumb's Producing Artistic Director.

HERE Announces Culturemart Festival Line-Up, 1/24-2/11

The OBIE-winning HERE announced the line-up for its annual CULTUREMART festival, this year running January 24 - February 11. CULTUREMART makes process the focus, presenting work in various stages of development from the boundary-breaking artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP). CULTUREMART provides a platform for HARP artists to blur the lines between dance, theatre, music, multimedia, puppetry and visual art, on their journey to mainstage productions. CULTUREMART 2012 features 12 workshop performances spanning topics as varied as civic engagement, human error, music of the spheres, war gaming and everything in between.

ALICE BY HEART, DETROIT, et al. Included in National Theatre's 2012 Plans

Highlights of the forthcoming productions at the National Theatre, announced today by Nicholas Hytner, include new plays by Alan Bennett, Stephen Beresford, Lisa D'Amour, James Graham and Lucy Prebble. There will be adaptations of Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Simon Stephens, and of The Count of Monte Cristo by Richard Bean. Enda Walsh's Misterman receives its London premiere; classic revivals include Polly Findlay's production of Sophocles' Antigone, Shakespeare's Timon of Athens directed by Nicholas Hytner, Bijan Sheibani's staging of Damned for Despair by Tirso de Molina, and Nadia Fall's production of Bernard Shaw's The Doctor's Dilemma.

TV: 2011 Steinberg Playwrights Awards Honors Melissa James Gibson and Lisa D'Amour - Inside the Event!

Lisa D'Amour and Melissa James Gibson are this year's recipients of the 2011 Steinberg Playwright Awards, presented by The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust at Lincoln Center last night, November 14. The Steinberg Playwright Awards are presented biennially, and are uniquely positioned to honor the accomplishments of some of the most gifted up-and-coming American playwrights, and to recognize the promise they hold for the future of American theatre.

DETROIT to Open at West End's National Theatre in May 2012

According to the Chicago Tribune, DETROIT, which premiered at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2010, will play West End's National Theatre in May 2012. The production, which was originally set for a Broadway opening, will feature new staging and an all new cast. Jeffrey Richards, who still holds the Broadway rights, said that he still plans to bring the show to the Great White Way.
