Broadway composer and lyricist John Bucchino and bookwriter Mads Nielsen's Danish-American romantic musical drama ESAURA, recently conluded a Fall 2013 run at the Fredericia Teater. The plot of the new musical is based on a free adaptation of the 1905 novel by Carl E. Simonsen 'Abraham Fournais' and has parallels to the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet. The musical drama is set during the aftermath of the Battle of Fredericia and tells a fascinating story about human relationships. In short, it is a story with universal appeal played out in a Danish historical setting. Bucchino recently took the time to chat with BroadwayWorld about how the show got its start, what's in store for it's future, and more. Check out the full interview below!

Having recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary on Broadway, the blockbuster musical WICKED continues to defy gravity, setting a new Broadway record for the highest one-week gross with a box office take of $3,201,333, for the week ending December 29, 2013. The first and only Broadway musical to gross over $3 million in one week, WICKED has broken the previous record, $2,947,142, which it also held (week ending December 30, 2012), and which had earlier been held by Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, with a gross of $2,941,794 (week ending January 1, 2012).

In 2013, I turned 28, which apparently is one of several years at the end of your 20s where basically your life hits the fan and sudden changes surround you. I looked around, and everyone else seemed so happy. Then, I breathed and realized that I have plenty to be happy about. In 2013 I became BroadwayWorld.com's official theatre recording critic and have been exposed to some incredible albums since accepting that title. Some I have loved; others I have not. Regardless of my feelings towards the albums themselves, these are the top 20 songs from 2013 I simply cannot get out of my mind.

5TH ANNUAL NEW YORK CITY CHRISTMAS: A Concert to Benefit ASTEP, is back by popular demand tonight at Joe's Pub. The evening will feature Broadway's most sought-after talent singing fresh, original approaches-pop, soul, R&B, rock and more-of holiday songs off New York City Christmas the album, available for purchase at the concert. ALL proceeds from tickets to the show and album sales go to supporting ASTEP's mission to connect performing and visual artists with underserved youth in the U.S. and around the world to awaken their imaginations, foster critical thinking, and help them break the cycle of poverty.

Joe's Pub at The Public has announced its holiday highlights (Dec. 15 - 31), featuring performances by JOHN ROBERTS, 5TH ANNUAL NEW YORK CITY CHRISTMAS, MIKE ERRICO, JACKIE HOFFMAN, THE HOT SARDINES, STARSKY + COX, LEA DELARIA, JUSTIN VIVIAN BOND, BABY DEE & LITTLE ANNIE, and SANDRA BERNHARD.

This season features a slew of stars originating roles, and plenty more making an existing one their own -- but regardless of the breadth of their repertoire, these divas prove they're the top when it comes to getting away with murder in 1920s Chicago, or running a derelict orphanage -- all while hitting their marks night after night.

The 25th anniversary celebration of GYPSY OF THE YEAR, the culmination of six weeks of extraordinary fundraising by 56 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national touring companies, raised an amazing $4,343,234 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The grand total was announced Tuesday, December 10, at this year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR, which included an array of original dances, songs, and skits performed by more than 250 'gypsies,' the most talented singers and dancers in the ensembles of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. Upper West Siders, Victoria Clark, Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Ricky Ian Gordon, Kelli O'Hara, Greg Naughton, and David Hyde Pierce are joined by other Broadway favorites, Kimilee Bryant, Brian Cross, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Lindsay Mendez, Mary Louise Parker, and Cantor Ari Priven along with singer-songwriter Jane Kelly Williams to celebrate the holidays and raise funds for much needed repairs for the historic Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew. Tonight, the church will be filled with song and jubilee from this star-studded cast. The benefit is produced by Gina Boonshoft and directed by Barbara Grecki. The musical director is Mary-Mitchell Campbell.

The 25th anniversary edition of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS' Gypsy of the Year Competition will be presented Monday, December 9 (4:30 PM) and Tuesday, December 10 (2 PM) at the Minskoff Theatre (1515 Broadway). The show will feature performances by New York's best actors, singers, dancers, and musicians with several guest appearances, including Tyne Daly, Cherry Jones, Ian McKellen, Mark Rylance, and Patrick Stewart.

It's Broadway's long-running shows that keep Times Square bustling year-round with theatre-goers from around the world who are making it to the Great White Way for their first time. Wicked, now in its 10th year, has been going strong for over 4180 performances and continues to play to full houses at the Gershwin Theatre.
