Photo Flash: Arena Stage's FIDDLER ON THE ROOF Meets the Press

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Broadway production this fall, Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater mounts a new staging of Fiddler on the Roof, the iconic musical that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Featuring a book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and based on Sholem Aleichem stories, Fiddler on the Roof runs October 31, 2014-January 4, 2015 in the Fichandler Stage. Geva's 42nd Season to Continue with GOOD PEOPLE, Begin. 10/21

Geva Theatre Center presents Good People - the Broadway comedy-drama about culture, class and luck by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by Mark Cuddy. Good People begins performances October 21, opens October 25 and runs in the Elaine P. Wilson Mainstage through November 16.

Goodman Theatre's SMOKEFALL Opens Tonight

Goodman Theatre begins its landmark 90th season with an All-New Fall, two months of new American plays, each of which was developed in the theater's new play programs. Tonight, Smokefall -- playwright Noah Haidle's box office record-breaker that debuted last year in the Goodman's smaller Owen Theatre to enormous critical and popular acclaim -- opens on the Albert Theatre mainstage, directed by Anne Kauffman with original company intact, and runs through October 26.

Exactly one year after its world premiere in the Owen Theatre, Noah Haidle's Smokefall, directed by Anne Kauffman, makes its Albert Theatre debut-becoming the third production in Goodman Theatre's 90-year history to transfer from the theater's smaller stage to the mainstage in order for more audiences to experience an acclaimed new play. An exploration of the power and fragility of love through three generations of family life, Smokefall in its debut set the record of highest number of individual tickets sold in Owen Theatre history, and the production topped the 'Best of 2013' lists among major Chicago media. Playwrights Horizons Extends BOOTYCANDY Through October 19

Playwrights Horizons announced today that their New York premiere production of the acclaimed new play Bootycandy, written and directed by Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara, would extend an additional week. The production is the season opener of the theater company's 2014/2015 Season. After opening on Wednesday, September 10, the limited engagement -- originally scheduled to play through Sunday, October 12 -- will now play through Sunday, October 19 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere of Bootycandy, a new play written and directed by Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (director of In the Continuum, author of Antebellum and Insurrection: Holding History). The production has an Opening Night set for tonight, September 10, and will play a limited engagement through Sunday, October 12 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

American Blues Theater to Host 'RIPPED' Play Festival for DCFS, 10/5

Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, present a special edition of RIPPED: The Living Newspaper DCFS Stories, Sunday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. This RIPPED edition is a night of short plays, poetry and spoken word inspired by DCFS stories and headlines.

American Blues Theater Accepting Submissions for 2015 Blue Ink Playwriting Award Through 9/1

Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, announce that American Blues Theater is currently accepting submissions for the 2015 Blue Ink Playwriting Award through Monday, Sept. 1 at 11:59 p.m. The Blue Ink Playwriting Award was created in 2010 to support new work. Competition rules are attached to this email Playwrights may only submit one (1) manuscript each year for consideration. The winning play will be selected by Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater's award-winning Ensemble. The winner of this annual competition will be awarded the Blue Ink Playwriting Award of $1,000 and receive a staged reading at American Blues Theater in Chicago. Ann Arvia to Join Jonathan Hadary in Arena Stage's FIDDLER ON THE ROOF; Full Cast Announced!

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Broadway production this fall, Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater mounts a new staging of Fiddler on the Roof, the iconic musical that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Helmed by Artistic Director Molly Smith, the production features choreography by Arena favorite Parker Esse, who adapts the original Jerome Robbins choreography for an in-the-round staging, and a 10-piece orchestra led by Musical Director Paul Sportelli (Arena's My Fair Lady, Light in the Piazza).
